Too much trouble

You watched as the back of the white Jag drove away into the distance, Tom leaving you behind. Barely a second later, after it had disappeared into the distance, two police cars sped past you, their sirens blazing. They didn't even stop or slow down as they passed you, and you were nearly knocked over by the wind current as they passed. As they quickly gave chase, you were just about to set off walking when it dawned on you that you had no idea where you were. As you stood on the grass beside the road, all you could see were short hedges along the fences beside the vast green fields, with not a street light or signpost in sight.

That's when you heard the sound of another car approaching at high speed. The police car sped around the corner in hot pursuit, after the other cars, but you saw the drivers head turn, watching you as they passed. Suddenly they slammed the breaks on and pulled over at the side of the road. It dawned on you then that you might be in trouble, as you were stood in the middle of no where without much of an excuse for being there. The drivers door flung open and a man stepped out, drawing their gun out from their pocket, pointing it at you.

"Hands up in the air. Stay where you are!", he shouted, advancing towards you. With his gun trained on you, you followed his orders, putting your hands up in the air, frozen on the spot. "Turn around, slowly. Keep your hands up, where I can see them", he ordered, taking steps closer towards you. You did so, turning your back to him, keeping your arms raised. You heard his footsteps approach until you sensed him right behind you. Then you felt the cold snap of something metal closing around your wrist. Oh no, you were getting arrested! This was not good

"You're under arrest missy. Anything you say wi-". "You've got the wrong person!", you shouted at him as you attempted to pull your hand down and turn around. He was a lot quicker than you anticipated, grabbing your other wrist and locking that behind your back with the other one before you had chance to fight back. "Then explain why you're stood by the side of the road in the middle of nowhere. There isn't anything around here for miles, so unless you just got dropped off, you have no reason to be standing here".

"I'm not involved, honest. I just got picked up by them and dumped here. Please, you've got to believe me", you tried to persuade him as he pulled you by your arm towards the police car. However, this police officer didn't listen, and soon you were shoved into the back on the police car, the door shutting behind you. "Right, well firstly, what's your name?", he asked as he climbed back into the car, turning around to face you. Now you could see his features up close, and at first you thought there was no way he could be a police officer, what with his curly hair, cute smile and causal attire.

"Y/N", you replied glumly, realising that you were in a lot of trouble now. You'd never been arrested before, but you knew that you'd soon end up stuck in a cell or worse, an interrogation room. "Well Y/N, do you want to tell me the real reason why you're here or do you want to do this back at the station?", he asked seriously as he looked at you in the back seat. "I told you, I'm innocent. You're making a mistake". "Really? Well explain this", he said, holding up a small computer chip up for you to see. Your eyes widened as you remember pulling a chip out of the bag when you'd been in the boot. He must have slipped it out of your hand without you realising. His grinned smugly at you as he saw the panic beginning to form in your eyes. You really were in trouble now.

"Oh, goldie locks, you there? You picked up that hostage yet?". The crackled voice on the police radio came across the speaker inside the car, making you both jump. His eyes widened in alarm as he quickly picked up the radio. "I'm busy!". "You're flirting Magnus, and failing", the voice on the other end replied. Magnus' cheeks blushed a deep crimson as his mouth hung open in embarrassment. He sheepishly looked at you, before giving a playful smile. "Sorry", he muttered, running his hand through his hair.

"You mean that this is a joke? I'm not being arrested?", you asked him, smiling a little at his awkwardness. "Yeah", he sighed, cringing, making the wrinkles at the sides of his eyes stand out. "Oh thank god", you exhaled in relief, slumping back in the seat, but instantly regretting it as the handcuffs dug into your wrists. "I guess I owe you an apology Y/N", Magnus said, reaching over the seat, unlocking the cuffs, taking them off you. You nodded, but couldn't help but giggle a little at how much he was embarrassed, as you could feel the heat off him.

"But you're okay Y/N, I mean, he didn't hurt you, did he? We had a witness sighting of him having a hostage in the car with him, so we're just glad your alive", Magnus admitted, smiling at you, putting a reassuring hand on your shoulder. "Don't suppose you know where he's heading with the rest of these, do you?", he asked in a quiet whisper, winking as he held up the computer chip you'd stolen in his hand. "Perhaps", you teased, winking back at him playfully. Magnus raised an eyebrow, biting his lip in thought.

"Are you making out or what?! Get over here Mag, we need back up!". The sudden shout over the police radio made both of you jump, again. As Magnus picked up the radio, holding the receiver, about to reply, the sound of shouting followed by several gunshots followed, before the line went deadly quiet. Both you and Magnus sat there still, listening to the silence before you heard a quiet scuffling of someone picking up the receiver on the other end. "You'll have to try harder than that to catch me", the low voice threatened on the other end of the line, before the radio crackled and the line went dead. Magnus sat still in shock, looking at the radio, panic in his eyes, realising that the person who'd just spoken to him on his colleagues radio was the man they'd been chasing ... Tom. "The ferry, to Paris", you whispered as the cold shiver that had rushed down your spine subsided. This was no time to play games, and as much as Tom had stolen your heart, you were not prepared to become evil like him. You wanted to help the police out, especially if it meant not getting arrested.

"Thank you", Magnus said, turning back around to look at you, nodding. "Best you get out. I need to catch him, and I don't think he'd be too pleased to know you helped". He was right. If Tom had just killed Magnus' friend trying to catch him, imagine what he'd do to you knowing you'd betrayed him? "Stay safe" you whispered to him as you climbed out of the back of the car, leaning in through his window. "You too Y/N. I may come find you again, and cash in that favour", he chuckled as he started the engine, the police car sirens blaring. "Take that road. It'll take you back home", he signalled towards a small, country road heading off through the fields. Giving you a grin, he beeped his horn as he sped off down the road, and you watched him disappear off into the distance, until you were left standing alone.
