Yu Xinyan had no reason to be polite with Mrs. Tian. It was Lu Juncheng who owed her, and he should be the one repaying the debt of gratitude to the Tian family. Not to mention the unresolved matters from her past lives—her current hospitalization was caused by his son.

Yet, thoughts of the future brought on a headache. The mere idea of returning to the Yu family was swiftly dismissed from Yu Xinyan's mind. In her previous life, the tragedy she experienced involved members of the Yu family, and she had no desire to see those people again.

Furthermore, if she returned to the village, neither the Yu family nor the Lu family would let her live a good life.

Who knows what unsavory rumors might circulate in the village?

Having packed everything she needed, including the documents for household registration transfer, Yu Xinyan knew that dealing with household registration and settlement after separating from Lu Juncheng would be a troublesome matter. Restlessness started to overcome her, but she brushed it aside, believing that where there's a will, there's a way.

Come what may, let fate take its course!

Yu Xinyan had been lying in the hospital for three days, and Lu Juncheng had only appeared once, urging her to leave the hospital early and take care of the children at home. Reflecting on her past life, she realized how foolish she had been.

On this day, Mrs. Tian brought her meal. "Gal [1], once you're feeling better, you should go home. Juncheng can't take care of the children all by himself."

Holding the lunchbox, Yu Xinyan replied calmly, "Doesn't his previous wife have many siblings? Can't they help take care of them?"

Mrs. Tian opened her mouth to say something but ultimately remained silent.

In her heart, Mrs. Tian thought that only Yao Qian's mother genuinely cared about those three children, while Yao Hui, the biological aunt, probably didn't have much sincerity. Otherwise, Lu Juncheng wouldn't have traveled all the way back to his hometown to find a wife.

However, Yu Xinyan couldn't say such things. If Lu Juncheng found out she had gossiped about him behind his back, her old man would definitely give her a piece of his mind.

After Mrs. Tian left with the lunchbox, Yu Xinyan got up and decided to take a walk downstairs. She couldn't stay in bed all day; she needed to stretch her muscles.

As she walked out of the ward, she noticed a young boy carrying a lunchbox, about to enter the neighboring ward. Someone at the entrance asked, "Sili, are you delivering food to your uncle?"

The little boy, with a faint smile on his cold and composed face, replied, "Hello, Grandpa Zhang."

"Ah, good, good. Hurry and deliver the food to your uncle."

As Yu Xinyan passed by the doorway of that ward, she instinctively glanced inside and locked eyes with the man looking out. She was momentarily stunned, but quickly recovered and politely nodded at him before walking away.

She stayed in the hospital for one more day before packing up her things and preparing to be discharged. It was time to address the matter between her and Lu Juncheng; they couldn't keep dragging it out.

After being discharged, Yu Xinyan didn't go directly to the family compound. Instead, she booked a room at a guesthouse. Since she was separating from Lu Juncheng, there was no need to get entangled any further.

Thoughts of her current situation and the upcoming college entrance examination in July brought a tinge of melancholy. The most pressing issue now was that if she separated from Lu Juncheng, she would have nowhere to place her household registration. Without a household registration, continuing her education would be impossible.

Moreover, separating from Lu Juncheng meant she would have to repay the 200 yuan debt first. Yu Xinyan had no intention of fighting this battle alone; people's mindsets were still conservative, and divorce was a rare occurrence. Therefore, she needed to find a place that could help her seek justice.

To be on the safe side, Lu's family urged her and Lu Juncheng to get their marriage certificate on the second day of their arrival. However, Lu Juncheng's thinking was that it would be better to cancel the marriage certificate first. Once the certificate was canceled, there would be no need to hold a wedding banquet, which would save him some money, revealing his less admirable character.
