Grayson's POV
I was in English class when the guidance counselor came in.
"Hi, Mr. R. May I borrow Grayson Dolan for a bit?" She asked.
The teacher nodded & signaled me towards her.
I got up, gathered my things & walked out.
We both went into the office & sat down.
"Am I in some kind of trouble?" I asked.
"Oh no, not at all. Just wanted to give you some, very exciting news." She said with a smiled.
"Yeah?" I said.
"Yes. So since you are graduating in 3 weeks, I've noticed your grades have improved a lot. Your finals grades were flawless. You have not been in any kind of trouble & you have at least 6 scholarship offers. And I know you are a teen father, which makes what I am about to tell you so much more amazing." She said.
I sat there waiting for her to continue.
"You were chosen as valedictorian this year." She said.
I couldn't believe the words that came out of her mouth.
"Me? As valedictorian? How?!" I said slowly, still in shock.
She looked through papers.
"It was almost a tie between you & Melanie but you beat her with your finals scores."
I sat there. Still surprised.
"I can't believe it."
"Well, believe it because you have to write your speech soon." She said with a smile.
I stood up & shook her hand.
"Thank you so much." I said.
"No problem. Congratulations." She said.
I walked out of her office.
The last bell of the day rang. Since Mel & I are seniors we were able to leave early.
After school, I went to take my mom & Mel to lunch. While we all ate, I told them about me being valedictorian.
They got so excited.
Mel kissed me & looked at me.
"I'm so proud of you, baby. Look at you. You have such a bright future ahead of you." She said with a smile.
I looked at her.
"Yeah. I've been thinking about my future a lot lately." I said looking at my mom.
She winked at me, knowing I was talking about the engagement.
I looked at Mel.
"So babe, you excited for your birthday dinner this Friday?" I asked her.
"Of course. You better give me a cute gift, babe." She said with a laugh.
"Oh yeah, it will be perfect. I hope you'll love it." I said.
I looked at Mel & it was so bittersweet to think that soon I will marry her. It made me happy.
Her birthday will be perfect.
