"touch me, and the only thing you're gonna feel is a broken jaw." She said "Gamora" donnie muttered as she looked away in slight guilt "I can also alter emotions to some extent." Mantis said "yeah, like what?" Peter asked "if I touch someone who is sad, I can ease them into contentment for a short while. I can make a stubborn person compliant. But I mostly use it to help our master sleep. He lies awake at night thinking about his progeny." Mantis said as drax patted his chest "do one of those on me." Drax said as she touched his forehead "sleep" mantis said as he fell asleep instantly.

"Welcome, everyone, to my world." Ego said, gesturing to the tropical plant they were on. "Wow. You have your own planet?" Peter said as donnie looked down at his shoes nervously "come on. No larger than your Earth's Moon" ego said "Humility. I like it. I, too, am extraordinarily humble." Drax said as Gamora began popping bubbles, followed by drax who was laughing.
"You own a planet and can destroy two dozen spaceships without a suit. What are you exactly?" Gamora asked "I'm what's called a Celestial, sweetheart." Ego said "a celestial, like a god?" Peter asked as ego hummed "small "g" son. At least of on the days I'm feeling as humble as drax" ego chuckled "donnie, why didn't you tell us you worked for a celestial?" Drax asked as donnie slightly shrugged, making Gamora take notice of how quiet he was being.
"I don't know where I came from exactly. First thing I remember is flickering adrift in the Cosmos utterly and entirely alone. Over millions of years I learned to control the molecules around me. I grew smarter and stronger. I continued building from there layer by layer, the very planet you walk on now." Ego said
"Woah" Peter said "I desired meaning. "There must be some life out there in the universe, besides just me," I thought. And so, I set myself the task of finding it. I created what I imagined biological life to be like. Down to the most minute detail" ego said "did you make a penis?" Drax asked "dude." "What is wrong with you?" Gamora asked while covering Donnie's ears
"if he is a planet, how could be make a baby with your mother? He would smush her." Drax said as Peter groaned out of frustration "I don't need to hear how my parents.." Peter said as he gestured something that donnie couldn't understand "why? My father would tell the story of impregnating my mother every winter solstice." Drax said "that's disgusting." "It was beautiful. You Earthers have hang-ups." Drax said
"yes, drax, I got a penis." Ego said as drax laughed in victory "thank you!" Drax said "it's not half bad." Ego said as drax hummed while Peter groaned in disgust "I also got pain receptors, and a digestive system..and all the accompanying junk. I wanted to experience a what it truly meant to be human as I set out amongst the stars..until I found what I sought. Life" ego said while pointing to the glass figures that were meant to represent his life
"when did you meet my mother?" Peter asked as ego turned around "not long after." He said as he turned to a glass representation of him and a blonde woman kissing "it was with Meredith that I experienced my first love. I called her my river lily. And from that love, Peter..you." Ego said as it showed his mother pregnant with him "I have searched for you for so long. And when I heard of a man from earth who held an Infinity Stone without dying, I knew you must be the son of the woman I loved" ego said "if you loved her, why did you leave her?" Peter asked as ego went quiet
"How'd you get to this weird, dumb planet?" Drax asked "ego found me in my larva state. Orphaned on my home world. He raised me by hand and kept me as his own. Till ego went back to my home world and found donnie who was also orphaned and he raised both of us like his own." Mantis said "so you two are pets?" Drax asked as mantis shrugged
"I suppose" she said sadly "people usually want cute pets. I can see why ego took donnie, but why would ego choose such a hideous one first?" Drax asked "I am hideous?" Mantis asked "you are horrifying to look at. Yes." Drax said as mantis looked down sadly "but that's a good thing." He said as mantis looked up "when you're ugly and someone loves you..you know they love you for who you are. Beautiful people never know who to trust." Drax said
"well, then I'm certainly grateful to be ugly." Mantis said as drax looked at the pools that were filled with flowers "those pools, they remind me of a time..when I took my daughter to the forgotten lakes of my home world. She was like you and Donnie" Drax said "disgusting or cute?" Mantis asked
"innocent" drax said before mantis slowly touched his shoulder. her antennas lit up before she began sobbing quietly. "Drax? There's something I must tell you." Mantis said before donnie and Gamora walked through the door behind them as mantis looked down "what's going on?" Gamora asked "this gross bug lady is my new friend." Drax said "gross?" Donnie asked "I'm learning many things, like I'm a pet and ugly." Mantis smiled "you're not ugly. Drax" Gamora said as drax's pointed to mantis "what are you talking about?" Drax asked "hey, can you and your sister show us where we'll be staying?" Gamora asked donnie in a soft tone as he nodded while she looked at his hair and hummed
"Why are there no other beings on this planet?" Gamora asked as they were all walking "the planet is ego. A dog would not invite a flea to live on his back"mantis said "and you and Donnie are not flea's?"Gamora asked "I'm a flea with a purpose. But um.." mantis said as she glanced at donnie as he looked down at his shoes "I help him sleep-" mantis said, trying to change the subject but got cut off by Gamora "what were you about to say to drax before we walked out?" She asked as mantis looked around "nothing" she said nervously while looking at donnie "your quarters are this way." Mantis said, changing the subject again
"So I guess this could all be mine someday" Peter said "rocket? Rocket, are you there?" Gamora asked her walkie talkie, but only receiving static back before Peter came up from behind her "what are you doing, Peter?" Gamora asked "dance with me" Peter said as he hugged her waist from behind "I'm not going to dance with you." Gamora said while still trying to get an answer back from rocket. "This is Sam Cooke, one of the greatest Earth singers of all time." Peter said while taking the walkie talkie from her hands, throwing it on the couch and turned her around before pulling her closer to him.
As she got pulled closer to him, they began slow dancing "drax thinks you're not a dancer" Peter said as she smiled "if you ever tell anyone about this..I will kill you." Gamora said "when are we gonna do something about this unspoken think between us?" Peter asked "what unspoken thing?" Gamora asked "this...cheers, Sam and Diane...a guy and a girl on a tv show who dig eachother but never say it because if they do, the ratings would go down sort of thing" Peter said as Gamora's smile dropped "there's no unspoken thing." "Well, it's a catch-22, because if you said it, then it would be spoken and you would be a liar. So, by not saying it you are telling the truth, and admitting that there is." Peter said as Gamora shook her head
"no, that's not what I-" she said as she sighed and pushed herself away from him "what we should be discussing right now is something about this place. It doesn't feel right." Gamora said before she grabbed her walkie talkie and walked inside "what are you talking about? You're the one who wanted me to come here!" Peter said as he followed her "donnie and that girl, mantis, they're afraid of something." Gamora said
"why are you trying to take this away from me?" Peter asked as she sat down "I'm not trying-" "he's my father. He's blood." Peter said "you have blood on Earth and you never wanted to return there." Gamora said "Again, you made me come here! And Earth is the place where my mother died in front of me." He shouted "No, it's because that place is real and this is a fantasy." Gamora said as she got up "This is real! I'm only half human, remember!?" Peter shouted
"That's the half I'm worried about." Gamora said as she dug through her bag "Oh, I get it. You're jealous because I'm part-god, and you like when I'm the weak one." Peter said "you were insufferable to begin with. I haven't been able to reach rocket. I'm gonna go outside and I'm gonna try and get a signal." Gamora said calmly
"you know what? This is not cheers after all! This is whatever the show is where one person is willing to open themselves up to new possibility, and the other person is a jerk who doesn't trust anybody! It's a show that doesn't exist. That's why it would get zero ratings" Peter shouted "I don't know what cheers is!" Gamora shouted back "I finally found my family. Don't you understand that!?" Peter asked "I thought you already had." Gamora said as her voice broke before walking away, leaving Peter alone with his own thoughts
