Then...

December 24, 1994 : The Night of the Yule Ball

A thirteen year old Hayley was stargazing from one of the East Towers, she knew she wasn't supposed to be out this late, but she figured everyone would be busy with the ball.

She didn't attend the party, dancing wasn't much of her scene and even if it was, who was going to ask her out?

The cold winter air whipped her face and she smiled breathing in the air as she stared at the moon. She liked these sort of moments, moments where she can just be alone and not think anything.

She looked down now and could see students disperse from the ball in pairs, heading towards shadows and bushes, she scrunched her nose and turned back to the velvet black sky decorated with stars that shined like diamonds.

Suddenly she heard lithe footsteps behind her, startled she turned, thinking it was Filch but it was someone who she would've never expected to see.

She saw his shiny boots first, his platinum hair next and his grey eyes the last as he emerged from the shadows.

"Malfoy?" Hayley asked confused,

"Hayley," he replied as he turned to look at her, slowly walking towards the battlement wall and leaned against it.

"What are you doing here?" She asked, not impressed that her alone time was interrupted,

"First tell me what are you doing here?" Malfoy replied, now positioning himself so that he was just a few feet away from Hayley,

"What does it look like I'm doing? I'm just here to get some air," Hayley replied still looking at the sky,

"Then I'm here for the same," he said his lips sticking upward,

Hayley narrowed her eyes at him,

He smiled in response, and Hayley quickly turned away.

Hayley didn't know what was the point of this conversation, Malfoy and she barely knew each other, they couldn't even be coined as acquaintances, they were both from the same house and that was that. In fact, this was the most they had talked since Hayley's first year when Malfoy speculated she might be the heir of slytherin. She was surprised he even remembered her name.

"You didn't come to that ball?" he asked, and Hayley pointedly looked at her pajamas,

"No, I don't like dancing," She answered,

"Admit the truth, no one asked you out," Malfoy said looking at her challengingly,

"I didn't want to be asked out," Hayley retorted defensively, turning her head back to the sky,

"So if I had asked you out, would you have said no?" He asked,

"Yes," Hayley replied annoyedly,

"I don't believe it," Malfoy retorted, his smirk still in place,

"That's the truth," Hayley insisted,

"Liar liar pants on fire," Malfoy his eyes slightly rising,

"Would you drop it if I say yes?" Hayley rolled her eyes and Malfoy smiled,

"You really wanted to go to the ball didn't you?" he asked coming closer to her,

"No! Stop making up things Malfoy!" Hayley scrunched her face as she moved away from him,

"Call me Draco, and I would've asked you out if I knew you wanted to go," Draco said and Hayley scoffed,

"Is it exhausting?" she asked
