"Why don't you ever eat school lunch, family?" Xae asked as he took what he wanted off my plate. I looked at it in disgust.

"It looks nasty and my ma should be on her lunch break right now, about to bring me some." I said.

"Shit, tell her bring me some too." Marlo's girlfriend, Alexus said. I looked at her like she had two heads. I don't even know her like that so she needs to calm down, joking or not. When Xae noticed I was mugging her, he cleared his throat.

"Pops told me ya' birthday coming up, family. What you gone do?" He asked smirking. I shrugged. I usually just stay home and Ma makes my favorite food and buys me things.

"I don't know, and it's two weeks away anyway." I said. He nodded and I looked towards Alexus. She was mugging me, hard.

"Is there a problem?" I asked.

"Yes, bitch. You got an attitude with me and I was just tryna joke with you." She said.

"I don't know you like that, calm down. Don't call me a bitch either." I said calmly, even though I was getting mad.

"Okay, you don't know me like that, so why you-"

"Be quiet." I told her. Damn, she was still going on about the shit, and it wasn't even that serious.

"Who the fuck you tellin to be quiet, bitch?!" She yelled.

"Aye, chill out and don't be callin my cousin out her name like that. You better get ya' girl, Marlo." Xae said. I shook my head standing up.

"Don't tell her nothin'. I told you not to call me a bitch, didn't I?" I said walking to her, but Xae stood up and stopped me.

"I got it, family. Chill." Marlo said. People were looking at us and I didn't like that because I hated being the center of attention.

I sat back down, but then my mom texted me.

Ma- I'm at the welcome center with your food. I bought you Taco Bell

I locked my phone back and slid it in my back pocket. I didn't even have the energy to tell them I was leaving, I just grabbed my purse and left.

I reached the welcome center and saw my mother from outside the glass. I tapped it and she turned around in the seat she was in and looked at me. She got up and came out and handed me my food.

"I know I'm always working and when I'm not working I'm tired, but I wanted to know how school was going?" She asked. I looked at her for a moment before sighing.

"Thanks for the food." I said and walked back towards the cafeteria. I really don't feel like she cares that much so I'm not going to feed into her little act.

I called Xae and he answered almost immediately.

"You still in the cafeteria?" I asked.

"Yeah, and don't pay Alexus no mind. She always been a bitch, to be honest." He said making me giggle.

"Alright, here I come."

"Okay."

Good to know if I ever got into anything, Xae would have my back. Maybe I should try to bond with him.
