Chapter {32} Destiny

Start from the beginning

She shook her head, "You know, you could've just asked for some bread." She added the spices to the bread adding a pinch of salt before delicately placing a rosemary leaf and cutting it into half, steam rising from the bread before condensing on the countertop.

The countertop was clean as though Thato had never baked, I loved how neat and clean she was so I did not have to worry about finding the house untidy or the dishes unwashed because she would do so without a single mummer. She would always say, 'Cleanliness is next to Godliness' whenever I left a mess in the kitchen or put the cushion on the carpet instead of the couch.

"Here you go!" She handed over the well-presented bread with a side of mashed potatoes, which by the way were my favourite and some cooldrink.

"Thank you, my good ma'am," I tried keeping a straight face, till she burst out laughing and I followed suit. How I loved this girl.

The reception of a posh upscale that looked more like a hotel was where I currently was. Everything looked too expensive to touch but good to admire from afar. Businessmen and women alike brushed past me, in quiet murmurs and staring gazes from perhaps seeing a person of my skin in such a sprauncy establishment. Such people made me feel unsafe under my own skin, though I was only a few shades darker than them and had slightly thicker hair did not mean I was not made in God's image, it did not give them the right to stare down at me in disgust and surely it did not give them the right to gossip and giggle behind my back. But I would keep quiet because the Word of the Lord taught me to be meek as my Lord and Savior was.

"Destiny?" A voice called from behind me. And upon my turning, I was not surprised to see Samuel in a form-fitting grey suit, and a pair of smart shoes.

"Samuel," I smiled, though it came out more forced than natural. I could not even bring myself to admire him because unfortunately, I was not attracted to him in that sense but who said it had to be love at first sight? Maybe someday I would view him as more than just a friend.

"You look magnificent," he commented in a husky whisper that made me inwardly shudder in disgust, moving a tad bit closer to me as I toke two steps back. This game when on till I bumped into a wall, and he rested his hands on either side of me, his overwhelming smell making me feel nauseous and his arms unpleasant around me. I lacked freedom. And his smirk only made him look like an antagonist, a predator trying to catch its prey. Where had everyone gone?

One breath... Two breaths... Three breaths. I tried to take in as much air as I possibly could without passing out as he moved his face closer to mine.

Lord, please deliver me.

"Sir," someone who sounded like a young woman cleared her throat before continuing. "Your table is ready."

Samuel angrily sighed, as though highly upset to have been interrupted for harassing and moving into my personal bubble without permission but by the power of God he stepped back until I had enough room to scramble a long distance away from him. I didn't think I would ever be comfortable with him. He had crossed a line that he shouldn't have dared to cross. It was the twenty-first century and about high time women were given the respect they deserved. Jesus also did not believe that women were meant to the silenced, or confined in the kitchen, so I would not be taking this laying down, evil triumphs when good people do nothing.

"I am not happy with what you just did," I confidently spoke my mind, not caring what his reaction would be. The young lady who had come at the nick of time had already left. I could only give God all the praise and thanks because had it not been for him, I don't know what would've happened.

"What are you talking about?" He tried to act oblivious to what had formerly occurred but if he wanted to act as though he did not know what he had done, I would gladly remind him.
