Chapter Twenty-four

"Magnus, what's wrong?' Alec asked with an onslaught of questions afterwards.

"Sometimes... I lose control." Magnus said turning heads towards us to see his cat eyes.

"Oh, Kitty cat." I whispered knowing he is worried about how Alec will react

"Beautiful." Alexander said.

"Magnus, they're beautiful. Your beautiful." He told him

I smiled at the interaction knowing our mate was perfect. I was pulled out of my memory by knocking on the door.

"Was someone coming over?" I asked Magnus

"Not that I know." He told me as we got to the door to see Alec.

"I know I have no right to ask y'all for favors. But I need y'all." He told us

I looked at Magnus before going to close the door. "It's Max." he said

I looked at him as we opened a portal appearing at the Institute right away. Alec led us towards Max, where the Lightwood family is standing outside. I went inside with Magnus.

"What happened to him?" Alexander asked.

"Max!"Isabelle screamed.

"I will kill whoever hurt my brother." Jace said.

We spread our magic over his body, trying to find the problem. Severe head trauma.

"Stella, I can't heal this. The injury... it's too severe." He said

"That's okay. I think I can. I have this old spell, back when I was a child. My mother taught me it. My father injured himself close to death, she had to use it." I told him

"What was the cost?" He asked me

"She lost her powers for a month. But I think maybe with the addition with Alexander and your strength I won't suffer any consequences." I told him

"Are you sure?" He asked me

"It's for Alec and Max. I'm sure." I told him

"Alright, then let's tell the family." Magnus said as we walked towards the door.

"His injuries are too severe. I can't help him." Magnus told them

"There's gotta be something... anything." Alec said

"There is. All I need is Alec and Magnus to be in the room with me and I can heal Max." I told them

"What do you need me to do?" Alec asked right away

"I'll explain inside the room." I told him

"Wait. Is this safe for him?" Isabelle asked me

"I promise Isabelle, that no harm will come to neither or your brothers." I told her

I went in the room with the boys behind me.

"What do I need to do?" Alec asked

"I'm going to need your strength alongside Magnus's. I will chant the spell, so I need y'all to hold my shoulders and not let go." I ordered

They did as told as I started chanting.

"Vestra potestates luceat" the wind rising to surround us

"facere horologium vicissim" I continued as the glow appeared

"reduc, quod quodom fuit mea" it spread through Max

"Sana quid fuerit nocere" My strength is almost gone

"Don't let go." I told them "Mutare fata' consilium" I continued watching the glow stray to his head

I felt it working.

"Nisi quod perdidit reduc, quod quondam fuit mea" I continued feeling the warmth coming to an end. I finally drew the strength from the boys.

"Quod quondam fuit mea, Quod quondam fuit mea!" I yelled as Max became stable. I watched as the energy left him, showing he was fully healed. But suddenly I collapsed. Thankfully Magnus and Alec caught me.

"Thank you. Thank you." The lightwood siblings chanted, hugging me.

"He's Alexander's family. I will always protect y'all." I told them

"I'm okay." I whispered knowing I wasn't. I was tired, really tired.

"Alec, they can all come in." I told him

I saw as he opened the door. All the Lightwoods flocked in.

"What happened? Is he okay?" Maryse asked me. I was still leaning into Magnus.

"Yes, he is. He should wake up pretty soon. He might get headaches, but nothing that can't be healed from an Iratze." I told them

Before we could walk out, Max stirred awake.

"Did you catch Sebastian?" He asked everyone.

"Sebastian did that? I am going to murder him." Isabelle yelled.

"You almost died and that's what your worried about?" Maryse asked

"We should go. Max take care of yourself." Magnus told him as we slowly walked out.

"Magnus, I'm tired." I told him

"we'll be home soon." He said

We saw Alec walking towards us.

"Magnus, Stella... Thank you so much for healing my brother." He told us

"I'm glad Max is okay." I told him in a whisper. My voice hurts. He smiled at us as Magnus and I turned around.

"I'm sorry. I should've told y'all about the Soul Sword. I made a mistake. But us and me... We always seem to find our way back to each other. Stella, Magnus, I love you." Alec told us

I saw Magnus put his hand on Alec's cheek.

"I love you, too." We said at the same time.

"But as a leader, there are difficult decisions Stella and I have to make to ensure the survival of our people. And the only thing holding us back from doing that... is you." Magnus told him.

Alexander looked at us hurt. We hugged him, comforting him.

"No. No." Alec said

"We can't have both." I told him

"yes, y'all can. We can. Wait, Magnus, Stella... Wait. We can figure this out." Alec said

"You once asked us what we we're afraid of. It's this." I told him as Magnus and I walked away from the Institute... and him.

We reached outside where I almost fell over.

"I got you. I got you." Magnus said as he lifted me in his arms

I just cried as he portaled us home. I changed into pajamas, leaning into Magnus hold of me in bed. I fell asleep right away, exhausted from the spell.

"Oh, my star." Magnus whispered.

I couldn't believe we walked away from our mate.
