Her little car shuddered to a stop just down the street from the event she was attending this evening. All those who's who were invited to rub elbows and Prada bags with each other. It was the toast of the town.
She stepped out of the car and shut the door beside her. She twitched her hips to snap the door into place. She really did need to get that fixed. Many things needed to be fixed in her little car, but all of that would have to wait. "Sorry, Annie, mama knows she gotta fix you. Just hold on a little longer," she told the car.
After locking her car up for the next few hours, she dropped her keys and phone into her bag. She smoothed out her pitch-black floor-length, sleeveless dress with a high boat neck and began walking with her heels clacking against the paved road.
She walked up the long driveway and stopped to enjoy the home's splendor. The all-white, two-story home with giant pillars was well-lit for the entire neighborhood to see. Everywhere outside was decorated with different lights. Big lights, little lights hanging from the tree lights, twinkle lights twisted into the flower bushes. Even the lights inside the house could be seen from where she stood.
"Gray? Is this you? Quit milling about outside. Come join us, dear!" a voice called out from the doorway.
Her name was Gray. Well, it was Grace. Her father wanted the traditional name, but her mother calls her Gray. She initially hated the name. It reminded her of all things wrong in the world. Gray clouds meant dreary. It was the color of cement or a lifeless rock. It wasn't until her mother explained that she called her Gray because it reminded her of smoke. "Where there is smoke, there is fire. And that fire lays within you," she told her. From then on, Gray would use her mother's words to get her through almost any challenge she came across.
Gray double-stepped her walk and greeted the woman standing there with her arms open, ready to hug her guest warmly. "Good evening Mrs. Jeon. How are you? Your home is as beautiful as ever."
Say what you want about Seoul's upper class, and Gray would probably agree with you. But say one bad thing about Mrs. Jeon, and Gray would be ready to cut out your tongue. Mrs. Jeon was an angel amongst her kind. She was always sweet and welcoming to everyone she met. "A stranger is only a friend you haven't met yet," she would tell Gray. She was nothing like the other people in the inner circle, and Gray loved her for it.
"Oh, my child! It's Eomma to you. I have known you long enough for you to call me that!" Mrs. Jeon scolded. "Now come hug me! I've missed you so!" Gray couldn't help smiling in her presence. She was one of the few people who could.
"Where is that boy?" Mrs. Jeon asked, looking around the room. "Jungkook! Come say hello!" she called out.
Gray slightly curled her lip when she saw him walking up. He was dressed in an all-black suit that looked disheveled. His short hair was thrown around half-hazard. The latest bunny tucked under his arm, no doubt the cause of why he looked the way he did.
"Hello, Gray," he told her as he stepped up to her.
"The golden boy of the hour. Hello," Gray replied.
Jeon Jungkook, the Golden Boy. He was Loved by all and good at literally everything he did. Gray knows she could never match him physically. Jungkook is untouchable in all things athletics, but academically Gray makes it her sole mission in life to stay two steps ahead of him.
"Gray," the girl under his arm greeted.
"Kit," Gray replied. Her fake smile was now plastered on her face.
"It's Cami," she replied.
"I'm sure it is," was Gray's response.
Jungkook is known as the "international playboy." He has a colony of bunnies, as Gray calls them, that follow him around everywhere he goes—ooohing and Aahhing all over him. Gray pays them no mind, even calling his girlfriend of the week Kit- a term used for a baby bunny, knowing she won't be around long enough to know her name.
