Wukong gripped the other's shirt, disbelief and grief at war on his face. "Did it have to be at the cost of you?" Startling ruby eyes searched the warrior's face.  My beautiful warrior, the kind and quiet shadow that always stared at me with adoring eyes. Did he really think his life was worth less than mine? The monarch wasn't even aware that his glamours dropped. "What was the point of anything if I didn't have you?"

"Wukong," Macaque pressed their foreheads together. "That's exactly why I had to do it." He wiped away more tears from the older monkey's face. "A world where you aren't free and happy. That terrified me. It would mean losing you again and again. I couldn't handle that."

"You were my reason for doing everything." The king cried, covering one of Macaque's hands and leaning into it. Everything I did, I did for us. Even if I did lose my way. All of it was for him. Then he was gone. He sniffled, eyes darting over the warrior's face. "I was lost and empty without you." A wavering chirp slipped out of the russet simian.

Macaque vision grew blurry as tears welled up in his eyes. "Having to be your enemy felt like I was tearing myself in half." Wukong's breath caught. "It broke my heart to continue the ruse." His tail twisted around the shorter immortal's. "It felt like I couldn't breathe some days, I missed you so much."

"I wouldn't eat after you died." The russet monkey admitted, clinging to the taller immortal. "I couldn't. Eating, sleeping, laughing. They were as dead to me as you. They seemed pointless." Macaque wrapped his free arm around the sage, holding him close. I missed your touch. I died the moment you did.  Wukong's eyes darted over the shadow user's face, staring into his eyes. "Nothing felt like it mattered anymore. I just started going through the motions."

"Wukong!" Macaque quietly sobbed, brushing their noses together and cradling the king's face. "I'm sorry! I just-" The taller immortal cut himself off, running his hands over the russet simian's cheeks.

Wukong's hand slipped from the front of the warrior's shirt to the back of his neck, holding him close. "I can't say I wouldn't have done the same if our places were reversed. I would have torn down heaven itself if they tried to enslave you." The monarch breathed in slowly, scarlet eyes never straying from wide amber. I would have destroyed them all. A small bitter part of him scoffed. That's probably why they wanted him dead.

Macaque laughed out another strangled sob. "Isn't that what started this? Attacking heaven? Can't we just exist? I want to eat peaches with you." He lightly knocked their foreheads together, bumping their noses. "I just want to exist with you." Earnest amber eyes gazing into crimson with a deep yearning.

Without another word Wukong pressed his mouth to Macaque's, kissing the other desperately. He remembered. My sweet shadow. The warrior returned the kiss just as fiercely. How could I have wasted so much time trying to get to Heaven when it was right here? The younger pulled the sage as close to him as he could. Never letting him go again. The king followed the motion willingly, knocking Macaque onto his back. An eternity won't be enough time for me. Not when it comes to him. Neither really noticed. They were too busy focusing on the feel of the other's lips, the slide of foreign tongues, the taste of their mouth.

Macaque gasped as the russet simian cupped his face, slipping his tongue into the warrior's mouth and exploring. Amber eyes slid shut as Wukong filled all of his senses. The sage pressed himself closer, pinning the taller monkey. The older immortal pulled back only to dive back while Macaque catching his breath. "Wuko-mmph!" The dark furred monkey held onto the king as they continued to frantically kiss each other.

Eventually Wukong gave the other a chance to breathe. "I loved you. So. Damn. Much. Liu'er." He rasped, nuzzling the other's nose, cheeks, and ears. Slow tears fell onto tan skin and red markings. Still do. I'll always love him. The king kissed the other's tears away. "You are never allowed to do that again. You hear me?" Their tail wrapped round and round each other.

"I hear you." Macaque wept, voice reverent and warm. "I love you too." He held the weeping monarch's face between his hands, caressing wet cheeks. "I love you. I love you. I love you." He would say that as many times as the russet simian needed to hear.

Wukong's lips trembled as he sniffed and cried. "I love you. You're not allowed to die again. Okay? It's not allowed." The older immortal delicately held the warriors cheeks, pressing their foreheads flush. He loves me. He still loves me! I'm never losing him again. He traced the other's facial mark and lips. "I have immortal peaches and wine. I can get some pills for you too."

"Whatever you want, Wukong." Macaque chuckled, kissing his cheeks and nose. He smiled up at the king. "Anything for you."

Laughing through his tears, Wukong kissed him again. "I should be the one saying that. You've already given me everything."

"Don't have to give what's already yours." Macaque purred, slowly kissing the sage.

Bonus:
Macaque's internal dialogue. Not aromantic. Definitely not aromantic! Wow. He's so warm and pretty and he's kissing me! I could drown in his kisses.

Until the end of time. I would tell him that I loved him until the world ended.

His voice is tattooed on my heart.
