This is a part two of a previous chapter: Nearly Omniscient. Enjoy!
Macaque soared over Flower Fruit Mountain, looking for Wukong. "There's only one place Wukong goes to when he's that upset." He transformed and landed at the peak of the mountain. An orange tail hung from a lone peach tree. "Wukong." Macaque softly called, approaching the tree. The tail twitched and vanished into the foliage. "Wukong, please."
"Go away, Macaque." The king whispered, curling in on himself. "Leave me alone." His voice was hoarse and rough from crying. Why? Why is he like that? Why would he have done that? Wukong had felt it the moment the other simian entered his territory.
Macaque leaned against the tree and slid down the the ground. "I can wait." He breathed out, resting the back of his head against the trunk.
"Turns out you're good at that." The russet monkey replied bitterly, still refusing to come out of the tree. Always making him wait. Making me wait. Pisses me off as much as is terrifies me. The shorter immortal shook his head, hiding in his hoodie.
"Wukong...." The warrior tilted his head back against the tree. Gazing up into the branches, he spoke up quietly. "Can we please talk? Will you let me explain?"
"What's there to explain?!" Wukong snarled, jumping down from the tree. I could smack him for being so stupid! He straightened and sent the other a furious glare.
Macaque flinched, tail going limp against the ground. "I-" The warrior went silent as the king stormed forward.
"I'm not all powerful, Macaque!" Wukong roared, the ground shaking from his rage. Stop flinching! Please! I'm not going to hurt you again. Never harm you like that again. Tears poured down his face as he glared at the warrior. "You've always put me on this goddamn pedestal and I didn't know how to deal with it. Now you tell me that you let me kill you all because I needed to learn a fucking lesson?" The king pulled at his fur, releasing a frustrated shout. "Agh! It doesn't make sense. You don't make sense! How could you do all that then act like you hate me? Only turn around and act like you care!"
"I never hated you!" Macaque pleaded for the other to listen. "I'm sorry I hurt you, but not for protecting you! I had to pretend to despise you. And I'm sorry! I hated every second of it!"
Wukong rapidly shook his head. "I don't even know what to believe anymore!" He pressed the palms of his hands into his face, hunching over as he fought back more tears. I'm so fucking confused. Can I actually trust this? I'm so angry but also happy.
Macaque slowly moved closer, keeping his voice soft. "I never wanted this. Any of this. I hated pretending like I hated you. It was never true, but I had to convince everyone it was." The ebony monkey hesitated a breath away from the sage. He gently lifted the other's chin and removed his hands from his face. "I'm sorry for the pain I've caused you, Wukong. All I've ever wanted was for you to be happy."
"How could I have possibly been happy with you gone?" Wukong's voice cracked, watery eyes gazing into Macaque's. "Your blood was on my hands, Liu'er. I cradled your dying body in my arms and was powerless to stop it. And I tried-I tried." Tears spilled from the king's eyes, coating the ebony monkey's hands. I didn't want him to die. Not him. Never him. Wukong needed the other to know that he tried to save him.
"And how could I dare call myself your friend if I didn't try to save you from an eternity of suffering?" Macaque murmured, hurriedly brushing the tears away. He quietly chirped, hoping to sooth the miserable king. "I would have never been able to live with myself if I knew of your fate and did nothing to change it. You were everything to me, Wukong. I had to help you."
