"I see you trying to help Princey" he smiles "But...you know..."
"No Richie. We've had this discussion."
Ross walks off after placing the soft drinks down, apparently planning to leave this to the rangers. Melissa looked at Richie.
"...What were you two talking about?"
"Him taking back the red morpher" Richie replied "He's perfect for it, he just..."
"He just...what...?"
The black ranger sighed, before pointedly looking at Adam. Melissa followed his gaze before frowning and looking away.
"I can't change his mind"
"...He just wants to be what his father wants" The pink ranger whispers "We can't stop him if that's his decision Richard"
"I know but that doesn't mean I have to like it"
Suddenly blue and yellow lights flash down into the building, Richie rolls his eyes.
And here comes Alisha...
"Oh where's little Park?" she grins a little "Actually that's a thought, who's the leader if we don't have a red ranger?"
Adam frowned.
"I'm working on that, for now you guys need to work together"
Axel nodded quietly before making his way closer to Melissa and further from Alisha.
"So who are we fighting?" Richie asks.
"There's some Drainers hanging around the Angel Grove Park and we've caught sight of this woman" he presses a button, showcasing a strange alien sitting on a floating staff "She's likely the cause of this. So the same as before, take out the spawners, deal with the drainers and this time, see if you can't capture the alien girl"
"Why don't we just destroy her?" Alisha asks "I mean, she's the bad guy"
Adam sighs, rubbing the bridge of his nose.
"Okay, I understand that. But listen, she's not a monster" he counters, "In this case, what we call 'monsters' are creatures created to be evil, they don't have an identity outside of it. That is their existence. I don't know if every ranger team follows the same philosophy but, we don't destroy indiscriminately."
"...How do you tell the difference then?" Melissa questions "What says you can decide what's evil enough to destroy and what deserves a chance?"
"It's...it's not easy Melissa, it's a hard decision to make. In this case she's not a monster, specifically Alpha's identified that she's Varianite. That is, she belongs to the predominant sentient species of the Planet Varian."
"Varian?" Axel tilts his head "I've never heard of it..."
"You wouldn't have, no. Way too far outside our galaxy for Nasada to have picked up on it yet" Adam explains "From my understanding, the Varian people are very peaceful, spiritual people. However, the wider part of the universe hasn't really heard much from them in the last...15 years"
"I'm sorry, 15 years?! Did nobody try to check up on them!?" Richie demanded.
"Yes. Quite an extensive list of people. Triforia, Eltar, Aquitar, Mirinoi, KO-35, Edenoi, Mercuria. That's just to name a few. Put simply, everyone who had a way to try has tried. A mysterious force was stopping them every time, which...now I'm starting to bet was the Emphyrean legion, one way or another"
"Okay, but if these...Varianites are peaceful then the fuck is she doing helping the bad guys?" Alisha folded her arms with a raised eyebrow.
"That's why we're capturing her and not destroying her. I agree, she wouldn't be. It kind of goes against their whole ethos to bring harm to others for any reason other than self-defense."
