Orange leaves brushed by on a particularly dark Halloween night. A group of middle school kids, still in costume from a night of tick-or-treating were sitting around in the woods outside of their neighborhood, telling jokes and trading candy. They were all laughing when suddenly, a steel hand reached out from under the ground. The children noticed, grabbed their bags, and ran. They were screaming, but one of the boys stayed behind. He was frozen by what he was seeing as a dirty, metal man rose from the ground.

The metal man struggled to keep still, as if it was learning to walk. It's motions were few, but sudden. The lone boy in a skeleton mask was trembling. The metal man paused to look at its own hands, before reaching one out towards the boy. The boy panicked and ran, but the metal man did not chase him, he simply stood. The boy ran back into town when he noticed a tall blue box marked "Police" standing on the street corner just on the outskirts of town. He ran up to the box and began to knock frantically. "Police! Hello!?"

The door to the Police Box was suddenly pulled open by the Protector, who peered down to see the boy. "Trick or treat! No, wait, you say that part. Ok, forget that, let's start again. You go."

The boy was still shaking from fright. "No, listen! There's some kind of...I don't know, a man out in the woods! You have to help!"

"Okay, slow down." She looked back into the TARDIS and gestured for Vale to exit the TARDIS with her. The two stepped out and closed the door behind them. "What's the problem?"

He looked at the pair of them with an eyebrow raised. "What kind of cops are you?"

"Halloween division, kid, don't worry about it." The Protector answered. She turned to Vale. "That's why we're all dressed up, isn't that right?"

"Uh, yeah... Right! Special forces! Don't want any boogymen trying to harm kids like you, now do we?" Vale replied.

The kid looked at them like he didn't quite believe them. "Okay well, me and my friends from school were in the woods and then this hand shot up from out of the ground! Then an entire man in this robot costume stood up, I know it sounds crazy but you have to believe me!"

"We believe you, don't we?" The Protector assured him.

"Can you tell us more about this robot you saw?" Vale asked.

"Uhhh, uhhh...it was dark so I couldn't see him so well. He had scary black eyes! Um, sort of silver." The kid recalled.

"Tell you what. That sounds a little familiar. I'll phone for backup!" The Protector opened the phone compartment and dialed up the Caretaker's number.
