Maddie vomited for atleast two minutes before she stood straight and flushed the toilet. I let go of her hair as she got out and headed to the sink. She opened the tap and started rinsing her mouth, spitting the water in the basin. I took out a the mini wipes in my bag and handed them to her and she used the wipes to clean herself.
"Are you okay ?" I finally said as I raised my eyebrows at her.
"Yeah, I'm just.. feeling a little sick lately." She tried to assure me. "Nothing serious."
"Madds I don't think what you have is nothing serious." I leaned on the counter, crossing my arm. "We had to change seats because you said the chicken being eaten by the lady next to us smelt weird."
"Blue it's just a change of season, this isn't what you're thinking."
"I'm not thinking anything, I'm not saying anything." I raised my hands in surrender.
She was thinking the exact same thing I was thinking, you could see the anxiety and fear in her face.
"Let's go." She threw me the packet of wipes, turning to get out of the door.
"To get a pregnancy test ?" I followed her.
"Yes!"
Maddie and I got out of McDonald's and looked around the mall for a nearby pharmacy. We walked in silence because she seemed like she didn't wanna talk and I also didn't wanna say the wrong thing. I mean I don't get what's got her so worried and dreadful about. Maddie has her life all covered up in a way many people would want their lives to turn up step by step. Her career is successful, she's got a loving partner, they bought a house, she's getting married soon.. exactly how any girl would want her life to turn out. The only thing left was kids, I for one think it's time. She's twenty seven years old, much more mature and nurtured for this parenting thing than me when I got pregnant.
We got inside the pharmacy and she looked at me signalling me to go to the counter. Why would anyone be embarrassed about buying a pregnancy test ? We're not fourteen anymore.
I rolled my eyes at her as I headed to the counter, a cute redhead with tattoos and piercings all over greeted me before she asked me what I needed.
"Four clearblue pregnancy tests please." I smiled taking out my credit card.
She handed me the pregnancy tests in a plastic bag after I swiped to pay for them. I got out of the pharmacy with Maddie following me.
"I'm taking them."
"Here ?" I raised my eyebrows.
"Yes, Adam is at our apartment... I can't wait for him to leave." She let out a heavy breath. "Now that you've planted this in my head, the suspense is killing me."
"Hey I didn't plant anything."
"You're right, I'm sorry. I've had my own doubts the past few days and.. I just thought I was being paranoid."
"We can take it at my apartment, I'm not letting my best friend take a pregnancy test in a public bathroom." I said and we headed to the exit of the mall.
We got to the parking lot moments later and both got in my car. I drove out of the mall and headed to the direction of my apartment, good thing I always have the keys of my apartment along with the ones for the mansion.
I kept glancing at Maddie who kept tapping her leg up and down impatiently. "Okay explain to me what's got you so nervous. You don't want kids ?"
"What ?- no no I do, I do it's just..." She sighed. "Adam and I have talked about having kids in the future. But now, this might be a reality, I might actually be pregnant. I just feel like it's too soon."
"You had a specific age you wanted to get pregnant at ?"
"Not exactly."
I parked the car in the parking lot of the apartment and looked at her. "I just think there's no correct time to have kids Madds, whenever you feel ready, it's your choice. And whenever you feel like you're not ready, it's also your choice. Tell me, would you be happy if the tests came out negative ?"
"I don't know Blue, I..." She trailed off as we got out of the car and headed inside, getting inside the elevators. "Honestly.. I would be disappointed." She finally admitted.
"So we want the test to say positive ?" I smiled, raising my eyebrows at her. She smiled shrugging as we got out the elevator doors and I unlocked my apartment.
She chuckled. "Yes." We got inside. "I'm nervous as hell.. but I do think I'll be disappointed if they come out negative."
I gave her a cup from the kitchen and the plastic bag that had the tests. "I heard it's easier to pee in a cup... Don't worry I'll throw it away after you use it." I said and we both chuckled.
She got inside the bathroom and got out moments later. "The instructions said I should wait for two minutes." She paced around the room, looking at the timer she set on her phone.
"I'm so scared." She whispered to herself. The alarm rang, signalling the end of the two minutes. She let out a heavy sigh before she headed to the bathroom but turned at the door. "I can't." She shaked her head.
"Would it be better if I checked and told you the results ?"
"Please." She replied immidietly.
I went to the bathroom and looked at the four pregnancy tests on the counter, displaying the same results.
"What does it say ?" Maddie asked as soon as I got outside the bathroom.
"You're pregnant." I remarked and saw the change of emotions in her face. First shock, then happiness, then extreme happiness.
"Are you sure ?" Maddie finally let out the breath she was holding as a huge smile plastered on her face.
I chuckled. "Go see yourself."
We both got inside the bathroom and she looked at the four pregnancy tests that read:
Pregnant
4+
"I'm pregnant." She let out a chuckle.
"Congratulations mommy!" I let out a squeak as I hugged her.
"I'm pregnant." She said again in disbelief. "I'm pregnant!" She finally looked at me, her wide eyes lightning up.
"Oh my gosh I can't believe- I'm gonna be a mom." She excitedly said, all of the nerves now forgotten.
"You're gonna be a great mom. I'm so happy for you Madds." I smiled. "And I'm gonna be an aunt. Woah woah!!!"
Maddie laughed looking at the pregnancy test in her hand.
