Open the Codex Part 2

Start from the beginning

"Back. Off!"

Forced to back away from his father he calls out to the others:

"Has anyone found their spawner!? This is getting impossible!"

"I - I found mine...b-but...there's so many" Axel replied.

"Same, I don't know how to handle them all!" Melissa added.

"Fucking piece of shit robots won't get lost!" Alisha huffed.

"Sorry Mi príncipe, I'm trying! But they keep blocking my blasts with their goddamn bodies!"

Ross looks at his morpher.

"Hey AI, are you sure I can't use my elemental power?!"

"I cannot in good conscience unlock it for you. There's simply no possibility that a regular human could adjust that quickly to Morphing Grid Energy"

"Dammit..."

Ross grits his teeth behind his helmet, his body trembling...his blood burned with the power of the grid that flooded through him but it still wasn't enough to handle these things.

Why wasn't he able to adjust?! He just...he had to save his father, he had to.

There had to be a way.

His grip on his sword tightened.

"Mars Ranger, please calm yourself. Your heart rate is increasing to a dangerous level. You must - "

He barely notices his AI stop talking, too focused on taking deep breaths. Remembering things his dad had told him. Ross was angry - angry at himself for not being able to do much despite his ranger powers and angry at the alien who was starting this mess...and angry at his father for never just...letting it go - but anger wasn't going to help.

You can't think straight when you're angry. You slip up. You make mistakes.

Ross refused to make mistakes.

He had to be calm. Calm heart. Soft breaths. Still thoughts. Calm.

He had to be the Red Ranger, be confident and firm. Make the right decision like - like Wolf, like Marco.

He had to try.

He felt as though perhaps...his senses had heightened further? Or was he just too stressed to notice...?

"Mars...I'm detecting something...odd..." the AI commented.

Ross grabbed his sword with both hands, if he moved fast enough he could certainly get through the Drainers. He was sure of it! He had to. He needed to be able to!

"Mars Ranger...?"

Ross felt a strange warmth around the hilt of his sword, he could hear crackling, sizzling then - an explosion of fire erupted from his blade, surrounding and consuming it from the guard up.
