"I- Im good, we already ate" She replied nervously, picking at the skin on her nails, hoping they didn't pick up on the little white lie or how her empty stomach growled at the slight mention of food. But as Evelyn's luck would have it they did, the adults raising their eyebrows at one another in the front of the car at the teens obvious lie

"well I for one am starving" Carina groaned dramatically rubbing her stomach, Maya smirked catching on to what her wife was doing, "how about we stop at that cute little diner we seen on the drive over here?" she suggested turning to look at her wife slightly before turning her attention back to the road

"That sounds good" Maya nodded smiling at Carinas devious actions, before turning to face the teen yet again. "Is that good with you, Ev?"

Evelyn felt her heart flutter at the nickname Maya had unconsciously given her. She'd never had a nickname before— stop —it's only temporary, she reminded herself. Instead she just nodded, in response to her foster mothers question, knowing to never go against foster parents. she'd learnt that the hard way a long time ago

The bell above the diners door sung, announcing their entrance into the café/restaurant. Standing beside the "please wait to be seated sign", Evelyn kept a good distance between herself and her foster parents still feeling quite uncomfortable with them

Maya and Carina felt concerned for the young girl, who seemed so scared to be anywhere close to them. They watched her with concern as her tiny, frail body struggled to keep ahold of the sleeping girl in her arms. As Carina was about to offer to take Faith for her a waitress, who looked to be about 19 approached them

"Hi, thank you so much for waiting" The girl smiled speaking out of breath seeming very stressed, "I'm Giada and I'll be your waitress for the evening"

"Nessun problema Giada, a table for four please" Carina said smiling reassuringly to the young girl, who sighed in relief "of course if you'd follow me"

With Faith on Evelyn's hip still sleeping, the three of them followed Giada to the table. Maya thanking her as they sat down, Carina and Maya beside eachother and Evelyn facing them, "I'll give y'all a few minutes to decide what you want to eat" The waitress said throwing them one last smile before walking away

Evelyn wished she would have stayed so Maya and Carinas attention wasn't directed solely towards her

Deciding to ignore the glances her foster parents kept throwing towards her, Evelyn decided now was probably a good time to wake Faith from her nap otherwise she wouldn't sleep tonight. She gently ran her fingers through the girls soft blonde locks, whispering in her ear as to not draw attention "wakey wakey baby" she said kissing the side of her head

Faith groaned in response, tucking her head further into the crook of her mothers neck, as she whined "no sleepy" the teenager carefully removed the toddlers head from her shoulder attempting to wake her "I know, m'sorry but don't you want to eat?"

The mention of food was enough to make Faith jump from her slumber. Maya tried to stifle a laugh at how similar Faith was to her wife, while Carina didn't even try to suppress the smile at the sight of Evelyn and Faith interacting so cutely together

"I's wake" she yawned, rubbing her eyes with her chubby hands before turning around so her back was laid against Evelyns chest

"morning teserò" carina joked smiling softly at the two year old who tiredly brushed her hair out of her half closed eyes, clearly still half asleep "hi 'Rina"
