Want for what isn't there
The etching of words into grassy skin
Fingers tracing out the letters
L-O-V-E put into theirs, scratched right into this

Want to taste the flash of colors
Divulge inner yearnings, give into whim
Turn our noses, say whatever
Because perhaps earth is too considerate of the sun and it's needed distance

Wary the rain beats down, cold and forlorn against the earth's scorched skin
Water longing to pool, and warm
But contact is so fleeting
It kisses the earth goodbye with misty lips

When clouds touch skies so blue
They never think what is me or you
Simply existence in the sky
Blue and white so intertwined

Down below the earth writhes
Isolated, dejected, heart sick
For it yearns for rain again
But the sun brings heated envy, and steals the rain away

Pulled away the rain drifts
Clouds with no choice but to move on, miffed
Left behind again, it's lonely
the earth carves you and me deeply
Sun brand scarring, burning, and needy

L-O-V-E traced into skin
Soft fingers a memory
Or perhaps just a dream
From an earth that feels so empty

In time the solitude grows familiar
But the ache remains, if only in dreams
When the skies lit up with lightening
Thunder drowns out the whimpers and crying

L-O-V-E etched into skin
Loneliness is ever so frightening
Yearning to be held
Yearning for the end
