I looked back at the tablet continuing the episode we were watching. The three of us were laying on the couch, with me in the middle holding the tablet. Their heads rested on my chest as we watched an episode of SpongeBob SquarePants.
"That's Mr Krabs' daughter, Pearl." He pointed at the screen.
"The shark is a crab's daughter ?" I arched my eyebrows in confusion.
"Yes dad, keep up!" They both scolded.
"I'm sorry." I mumbled. "I just don't get it."
I really don't get it.
I asked hesitantly pointing at the fat star, trying not to get shouted at. "And the pink one ?"
"That's Patrick Kenny, keep up!" Her voice said and my heart almost leaped out of my chest as our eyes widened.
The three of looked at each other before our eye snapped to the direction of Blue's bed. "Mom!" They both shouted running to her. She smiled as she held both of them closer, hugging them. I stood up from the couch, so much relief and happiness flooding through me.
"We missed you so much mom, why didn't you wanna wake up ?!" Kai teared up and Blue wiped his tears, kissing his cheeks.
"I'm sorry baby." She said as she stood right. "I'm awake now right ? Stop crying Kai."
He wiped his tears, hugging her afterwards. "I'm sorry okay ?" She whispered and he nodded.
Blue's eyes lit up and she smiled looking at Kiara. "My little girl's not wearing glasses." She hugged her kissing her cheek.
"And I can see properly without them." Kiara said excitedly before her smile faded. "I missed you so much mom, please don't ever leave us again."
"I won't, I promise." She nodded. "And I'm sorry I wasn't there when you came out of surgery."
"It's fine, daddy was there." She smiled causing Blue's eyes to finally land on me.
"Why don't you guys go get something from the vending machine ?" I suggested giving Kai the money.
"Why does he get to hold it ?" Kiara complained.
"Because I'm the oldest ?" He raised his eyebrows and she rolled her eyes before they got out.
I sighed, walking closer to her. "How long have you been awake ?"
"About half an hour." She smiled. "It was cute watching the three of you."
"Blue what the fuck were you thinking ?" I spat angrily.
"That.. I should probably tell you guys that I'm awake ?" She raised her eyebrows. "Ohh, you're not talking about now ?" She said noticing the glare I gave her.
"This is not the welcome I was expecting." She mumbled. "I thought you'd shower me with hugs and kisses and-"
"Blue."
"Okay, I'm sorry." She smiled raising her hands in surrender.
"Why would you take a bullet that was meant for me ?" I tried my best to keep my anger and frustration steady. "Blue you have children. Did you ever think about what would happen to Kiara and Kai if you didn't make it ?"
"Yes Kenny. They were the only thing on my mind at that moment." She defended. "You know what I was thinking ? That if I didn't make it, they'd have their father to love them unconditionally. I knew that no matter what happened to me, you'd be there for them.
"Now can you stop frowning at me." She pouted.
"You're really frustrating you know that ?" I said as I kissed her.
"I know." She smiled in between the kisses.
"I seriously don't know what I would've done if I lost you Blue." I admitted as we pulled away. "I just got you back. I wouldn't be able to forgive myself if you..."
"Firstly it wasn't your fault. Secondly, I knew I'd survive , but if the bullet had hit you, you wouldn't have survived."
"Let me guess, because you've been shot more times than me ?" I arched my eyebrows, crossing my arm.
"Hey, it's not a competition." She took off the oxygen mask that hang on her neck, putting it on the bed. "But that's also a valid point." She mumbled to herself.
I heavily sighed as I sat on the chair, looking at her for an explanation.
"Kenny he was aiming for your chest, your heart. You would've died before we even got to the hospital. I knew if I moved you, and angled myself correctly, he'd hit my stomach. The perfect spot... He didn't shoot any vital organs or important muscles."
"So you knew you'd survive this ?" I asked in confusion.
"Yes." She proudly said.
"What if you didn't ?!" I retorted, a thousand emotions swirling just by the thought of her not making it. "What if something actually went wrong and you didn't survive this ?"
"Then I'd be embarrassed it only took one bullet to end me." She huffed, rolling her eyes. "Seriously one bullet ? I mean... they don't call me die hard for nothing." She said proudly.
"They don't call you that. Nobody calls you that."
"Well they should." She nodded, agreeing with herself.
This woman is frustrating, but I would'nt wanna have it any other way. Like always, she looked flawlessly beautiful, you'd swear she didn't just wake up from a coma thirty minutes ago. She had no make up on, but that's how I preferred her. She didn't need make up. Her skin was completely free of fault or blemish, but she liked dressing up so much she wore it regardless. Her hair was messy, the thick waves of black hair framed her face. Her caramel skin was glowing complementing the brown of her wide eyes. She had a perfect nose, irresistibly plump lips, and an infectious smile. She was a work of art, everyday more beautiful than the day before.
"So, are you gonna tell me who tried to kill you ?" She raised her eyebrows.
"You mean who tried to kill us."
