After the breakdown I had in the car, I went to the one place I know I'll always find happiness. No matter how miserable I feel, I know all those emotions will dissapeare as soon as I see my kids. I'm just grateful that Max didn't ask any questions, he could see that I didn't wanna talk about it.
I still can't believe how I wasn't able to control my emotions. If there's one thing I excel at, other than killing, then it's putting up a facade. I know how to lie and continue like nothing's happening. I know how to hide my feelings like how I could keep a secret. I mean that's the reason I'm in this situation in the first place. So I just don't know what happened back there.
My thoughts were interrupted by a splash of water across my face. I looked at the two little humans that were inside the pool laughing while looking at me.
"Did you just splash me ?" I narrowed my eyes, only my feet were inside the water as I sat on the deck of the pool.
"It was Kai, not me!"
I looked at Kai as I got inside the water. "Do you wanna start war ?"
"I'm always ready for war-mom!" He screamed as I splashed him with the water.
"You weren't ready that time." Kiara laughed as she too splattered the water all over Kai. "Or this time too."
"So it's two against one ?" Kai asked before he started splashing us.
It was a splash fight between the three of us inside the pool, with the twins screaming and laughing. This is the sound that could make me forget all my problems instantly, be happy for a moment.
I heard my phone ringing where I left it on the deck and went to answer it. "Hello ?" I answered without looking at the caller ID, still trying to get the water off my face and open my eyes properly.
"Hey." A familiar deep and husky voice resonated and I instantly knew it was him. "Are you free.. We need to talk."
"Yeah, uhh.. right now ?" I asked nervously. Why am I nervous?
"Yeah, unless it's a bad time." Kenny responded. "I wanted to see them."
"No no it's fine, I'll send you the address." I told him before hanging up.
I let out a breath I didn't even know I was holding as I ran my hands through my wet hair.
He called.
He wants to talk.
I'm a nerve wreck.
A motherfucking nerve wreck.
You wanted this. I thought to myself as I sent him the address. I don't usually allow anyone access to the mansion, but it's Kenny. He wouldn't hurt his own children.
When Maddie convinced me that he just needed time, I thought it'd take a week or weeks for that matter. Then he calls the next day ? I wasn't prepared for this. But you were prepared for the confrontation yesterday, are you hearing yourself ?
Well that's because I was caught, I felt like I needed to give an explanation or something. Looks like you gotta give the explanation seconds from now, my conscience mocked as I looked at the notification on my phone. There was a car at the gate.
How did he even get here so fast ?
I got out of the pool, leaving Kai and Kiara playing with water guns inside. I pressed the gate remote control as soon as I got inside the house.
I watched on the screen as he pulled his car and got out. I went to the front door as soon as he rang the bell and opened it.
"Hey." He nervously said. I'm not the only nervous one.
