Secrets and Nightmares

"Hello. Pink." The burning pain bursted on my skin again.

"Ah!" I screamed sitting up in my bed, sweat covering my skin. Pearl comes bursting into my room looking around my room before stepping towards me. I was still trying to catch my breath from the nightmare.

"(Y/n)? What happened? Why are you covered in sweat- and so pale!" Pearl panicked, taking in deep breaths I held my head in my hands- my elbows resting on my knees.

"I... ugh, I had the nightmare again." I told her, she tensed up but took a seat next to me in my bed. "But something different happened... it sounded like a male- but he called me pink." I told her. She sighed and brought her hand up to her mouth.

"I... I think it's time to tell you something." She said, we walked to the living room and she sat me down on the couch. Garnet and Amethyst were busy with their own things and Steven was probably in town- so we had the place to ourselves. She reaches into her gem and pulls out a VHS tape. "When Rose first brought you here she made me promise to show you this when the time was right." Pearl admitted. Putting the tape into the tape player we had, the t.v. buzzed and then it showed a desert-like place. It had high walls but no ceiling, just sky, in the sand I could see random pieces of junk. Pearl took a seat next to me, her hand gently holding mine. Then a voice began to speak.

"Oh- okay. I think I got it." I've only heard that voice in the beginning of my new life but it was one I wouldn't forget. Rose Quartz walks into frame and sits on the sandy floor holding her big belly. "Hello, (Y/n). I know you may be confused- but I did something. Now you may already know that I won't be around for long but I fell in love with you so fast and I hope I was a good mom in our short time together." I clenched my hand in Pearls'. "You know Steven now has my gem and my powers, but he's not alone." I raised a brow, looking over at Pearl she looked just as confused, telling me she never saw this either. "I figured out a way to transfer some of my powers to you too. On my last night, I'll kiss your forehead and touch your belly button and say a few words that'll probably won't make sense but I swear I'm going to do this for a good reason." My eyes widened and Ireach for my stomach. "This will only be activated when Pearl thinks you're ready. My gem will be marked in your skin and you have my powers. Steven's powers. I hope you don't hate me for it, but I want you in the gems' lives for as long as possible. I know Steven will be and he'll need his big sibling there with him. I love you my little Star."

The video stops and I let the tears fall from my eyes. Blinking, I look down at the floor in confusion. A marking of her gem- but it was a... I look at Pearl and all she does is nod. My eyes widen and my hands tighten into fist. Pearl brings me into a hug and I couldn't help but cry into her shoulder.

"I've wanted to tell you for so long but we can't let the other's know, not yet." Pearl said into my hair. Controlling my breathing and calming my hiccups down before pulling away from her.

"... am I ready?" I asked her, Pearl sighed and held her hands in her lap.

"No... not yet, you have to understand that we would need Steven to complete it and-" Pearl began but I cut her off.

"And he's not ready." I said, Pearl nods and sadly smiles. I nod and stand up from the couch. "I can wait, I'm not in any rush- I can wait a few more years." I smiled, but I knew it didn't reach my eyes- since the nightmares began I've been feeling drained and running on autopilot. It seems Pearl had finally noticed.

"Are you sure you're alright?" Pearl asked, I nod and head to my connected bathroom.

"I just need a long shower. I'll be out in a bit." I said, shutting the door and sliding down onto the floor. Bring my knees into my chest, I rest my head on my knees. Taking deep breaths and trying to clear my vision that was still blurry from the tears and my mind fogging with the new information just given to me. Opening up my medicine cabinet I see the bottle of sleeping pills I had gotten when I was having trouble sleeping after my first year of training with Pearl. Twisting the lid off, I look inside and see that the bottle is ¾ full of the purple pills. Re-reading the directions I take a shower, letting the hot water sting my back and the small room filled with steam. Putting on the same pair of pj's I had this morning- looking at my reflection in the mirror, I winced at the dark bags forming under my eyes- my skin was a bit paler than normal and my eyes were dry and red.

Laying on my bed, I swallowed down two pills and reached for my water bottle on my bedside table. Taking a sip of water, letting the pills slide down my throat easily, I lay in bed surrounded by my pillows and blankets waiting for the pills to kick in.

I don't know how long it took but I don't remember falling asleep. However, I was met with a dreamless slumber- that is until I saw a small white light.

Everything was black, I couldn't see the floor- like an endless void, like the sky above me and the area around me. If there was a wall near me I would walk right into it- honestly, this place was peaceful but if I let anxiety take me over I would panic. In the distance what seemed to be a few feet away- was a white light floating in mid air. It looked like a white sphere, because the area was so dark I couldn't tell if it was a light or just a shape. No light reflected around it, but I wondered if it was warm. Taking a step forward I waited for something- anything to happen. A sign for me to continue or to walk away- but nothing happened and I took that as a sign to walk towards it.

The closer I got to it my eyes began to sting- it was a light. Inches away from it I reached out my hand and waved it under the sphere- light reflecting off my skin.

"What are you?" I whispered.

"Something different." Not expecting an answer I stepped back and pulled my hand away- like it had burned me. It was the same voice I had heard in the nightmares.

"Like what?" I asked, keeping my distance.

"... A mineral," It said.

"And what's that?" I asked, a moment passed before it answered.

"You made this very easy, you know." It said, the void around us shook.

"What?" I narrowed my eyes, ignoring the shaking.

"I've been trying to find you... Pink." The white sphere vanished but in a blink of an eye it returned- only for it to turn yellow with a black slit in the center of it.

An eye.

I didn't run like I wanted to, I was done with running I wanted answers.

"Who's Pink?" I asked, acting dumb.

"Don't be dumb." It said, the void around shook again, but this time cracks formed in the area around us. White peeking through as pieces fell to the ground- none landing on the floor- it just fell and kept falling until they were out of sight.

"Who are you?" I asked, trying to keep my balance.

"... You really don't know me?" It asked. I shook my head, the room around stopped shaking and the falling pieces of black stopped. The room then turned white- in a blink of an eye I would've missed it, the floating yellow eye vanished too. "I go by the knight of minerals... but my enemies call me Black Obsidian."
