Steven Universe Reader Insert (Rewrite)

"..." Looking away from the front door and to my feet I couldn't help shake the feeling of something off with that mirror and this whole situation with Steven.   

"I can hear you thinking, (Y/n). Mind sharing your thoughts." Pearl asked as she began to sort out the pile. 

"Is that gem trapped in that mirror?" I asked, Pearl froze and she crossed her arms over her chest. 

"I-" Pearl stopped and held her hand to her chin in thought. 

"We're supposed to help gems… why not her?" I asked, I was afraid of the answer she would give me. If the whole point of the crystal gems was to help gems and the earth then why are we not helping gems that are clearly in need of help? 

"Your mother-" She began but I scuffed at her words, chasing her to pause. 

"My mother? The woman you raved about being a hero- an amazing gem that would do anything to help her fellow gems, trapped one in a mirror because she wanted to?" I asked 

"That's not- Why does it matter?" Pearl asked, crossing her arms over her chest.

"Is there something about mom you're not telling Steven and I?" I asked. Pieces of how Rose Quartz came to be doesn't add up. How was she able to shatter Pink diamond without getting caught at the moment it happened? How could she shatter her if it went against everything she stood for? 

"No, of course not." Pearl frowns, she walks over to me and gently holds my face in her hands. Rubbing out the stress line forming between my eyebrows. "... When Greg and Rose took you as their own- I took you in as my own. I knew Rose wasn't going to be around for long, so I made the decision of taking you under my wing. I wasn't worried about Steven because he had Greg- let's be honest he wasn't going to be able to handle two children. I swear, there are no secrets between us." Pearl smiled, her eyes shined with a bit of tears but I only saw concern for me. 

Nodding I grab her hands and pull away from her hold. Looking at the pile I let out a little cough. 

"Want help with that?" I asked. She smiles and nods, just then Garnet and Amethyst worp into the house. 

"Haha! This is hilarious!" Amethyst laughed as she tried to place a rubber duck on one side of the pile of organized school stuff. Only for Pearl to stub it with her spear.

"It has to be symmetrical!" Pearl huffed and she gently ripped the ruined duckie from her weapon. Garnet and I sat on the couch and snickered at the chaos Amethyst was causing. 

"Amethyst try this one." Garnet said, tossing a toy bear to Amethyst. 

"Guys! Guys!" Steven shouted as he brusted through the front door, mirror in hand- he looked confused at the situation happening. 

"Hey Steven! Check this out." Amethyst said as she placed a bear on one side of the pile- right away it was stabbed by Pearl's spear. 

"Ah! MC Bear! Nevermind that!" Steven said, shaking his head. "I got the mirror to work!" He smiled, I raised a brow. "Look, hey- say hello." Steven said to the mirror and he had it facing us. I slowly stood up from the couch and took a step towards Steven. 

"Is it talking to him?" Pearl whispered to Garnet- who looked worried. I raised a brow at them and stood between them and Steven. 

"Why do you guys look like that?" I asked. 

"Like what?" Amethyst asked, looking between me and Garnet. 

"I shouldn't be able to talk to him." I said. Pearl tensed up when Steven laughed. Looking over my shoulder, my eyes widened when I saw it wasn't Steven laughing it was the mirror- using his laugh. "Steven? Let me see the mirror." Reaching my hand out towards him, he smiled and was about to hand over the mirror but stopped when it used his voice- screaming out a 'no'.
