HARRY – Slams down hands on hand rests of his chair Oh for gods sake! There was nothing wrong with her! She was just a normal teen living a normal life, and she was happy. She loved spending time with herfriends, who, by the way, she saw every day at school and hung outwith after school and on the weekends too, and they loved being withher too. She loved you guys (gestures to parents), and neverhad any qualms about telling you anything! She was just sortingthrough the normal teen stuff like you thought Mum, surely youremember puberty wasn't the most fabulous stage of your life!?
OFFICER – Andwhat about you then, Harry? Were you a positive influence in herlife? Did she have you as a source of comfort and security when sheneeded it?
HARRY – What? Ofcourse she had me! I'm her brother!
OFFICER – Well,Harry, she might have looked up to you. Might have enjoyed your timeand company. But you yourself are also a teenager, and what's to sayyou didn't do some things yourself when going through puberty thatmay have resulted in your sister to think it was a positive thing topick up?
HARRY – Standsup, slamming chair back into wall and throwing hands up You knowwhat? This is ridiculous. It's your job to figure out what happenedto my sister, who, by the way, I do not believe killed herself, andso I'm not gonna sit here and have you question my identity whilstyou twiddle your thumbs doing nothing to actively pursue my sisterscase and insult my family.
FATHER – Harry-
HARRY – No. I'msorry, but I'm done. Walks out
Harry is sitting on bed staringblankly at wall, broken contraption lying on the bed next to him, doing nothing. Mother enters.
MOTHER – Hey. Youokay? Harry doesn't move. I'msorry, that was a stupid question. But, we have to believe she'sgone to a better place, that she's happy wherever she is. Because, she wouldn't want us to be sad here without her. She'd want us tostill be happy, and keep living, not like nothing happened, but asthough there's still a purpose to life.' (Motherlooks at Harry, sees he hasn't moved, and so sighs again)'I know you two were close. But what about everyone else in yourlife that you're shutting out right now? Your dad and I? Yourfriends at school? And you can't let this govern how you act towardsothers. Even when a certain police officer's being a huge pain in thebehind. Don't let this get the better of you, Harry. You're afunny, intelligent kid, always able to make the most of anysituation. Do me a favour, and don't ever forget that. I love you.'Motherwalks out, closing door softly behind her.
Harrycontinues to sit in melancholy state eyes unfocused, before gazeturns angry and he gets up and flings the contraption against thewall where it breaks even more, and slams his hand into the wallafter it. Sudden flash back to the bare wrist of the body beingloaded into the ambulance.
Flashback to him and his sister when they were younger, on his sistersbirthday. She's sitting in front of a birthday cake with a party haton her head, hair wild and eyes sparkling, and he gives her apresent. She unwraps it and opens the box to find a delicate silverbracelet with the first charm on it – a tiny heart with the letter'I' engraved on one side, and 'H' on the other. Then quick montage ofslightly older selves wearing the bracelet no matter what, sistersvoice promising Harry she would never take it off.
Harry'seyes widen and he jumps up, carefully pulling open his bedroom doorand making sure neither of his parents are looking, before creepingdown the hallway to his sisters room and gently closing the doorbehind him.
Helooks around briefly, before moving over to the jewellery stand onher dresser, and sees the bracelet sitting there, perfectly untouchedand unique, every charm he'd given her since then hooked delicatelyon the fine chain.
