Your roommates were really, really nice.
Whenever you told the other inhabitants of Hotel OJ that, they never really seemed to believe you.
You had moved into your old friend's new business after a particularly bad argument with your parents, resulting in you being kicked out of the house you still lived in.
Of course, once OJ had heard of those events, he swooped in with a proposition— what if you moved into his hotel whilst you looked for a way to get back to stable ground?
Obviously, you just had to agree. I mean, you're gonna get to live somewhere for free— and not to mention, you'd get to see your old friend in person for the first time in years!
OJ had informed you, though, that there would be a catch. He simply didn't have many rooms to spare, but he still wanted to help you. So, you'd have to have a roommate. Or, in particular, two.
And that's how you got here.
By "here", you meant sitting on the couch, snuggled up under a blanket with your roommates, whilst a movie played on the tv in front of you.
It was a bit strange to you, everyone else had some... choice words to say about your roommates, especially one of them. You can't count how many times you've heard the line "he's really the worst" when talking about the people you've spent so much time with here.
Your gaze idly moved to the people in question, Yinyang, the dynamic duo that people seemed to hate so very much. Their eyes were fixed on the movie— some animated one about a hedgehog that you weren't really paying attention to.
They looked so comfortable cuddled up to your side, leaning against you like you were the most comfortable pillow in the world. You couldn't understand how anyone could hate them. Sure, at first they were a little bit wary of you— Yang especially. You still remember him calling you dumb names for the first month you'd stayed here.
But, that harshness slowly ebbed away. You didn't quite know why, maybe it was just the fact that they accepted you'd be there for a while. Nonetheless, it happened. You had started getting closer and closer, until... well, you were close enough to be practically laying on top of each other like this.
"Uhm..."
Yin's gentle voice brought you back to reality. Shit, you'd been staring at them for a while now, huh?
"Are you okay...?"
You averted your gaze, feeling a bit bashful.
"Oh, sorry. I was just... thinking, I guess."
You chuckled awkwardly, feeling your face flush a little. Geez, why were you thinking about them so intently anyways?
"You didn't need to stare at us while doing it."
Yang playfully nudged you, making you almost miss the faint flush you saw on their cheeks. Almost.
"Well, I was thinking about you guys, y'know."
You admitted, looking back at them.
You saw them blink in what seemed like surprise.
"...Why?"
"I've just..."
Pausing, you tried to think of just how to articulate your thoughts.
"Whenever I tell people how nice you guys have been to me, they never really believe me."
Hearing nothing but the tv in the background, you continued.
"I mean, I've told people about stuff we've watched together, and they always assume that I had to force you guys to do it. Or that you guys forced me to watch it."
You let out a sigh, leaning against the armrest to the point that you were almost laying down.
"It's kind of annoying... like, do they not see that you're really fuckin' cool?"
After a few moments of them not speaking, you started to get concerned. However, right when you were about to push yourself up to see if they were alright, you felt something short on top of you.
Yinyang wrapped their arms around you, snuggling into your chest.
"Uhm... the truth is..."
Yin started, avoiding eye contact.
"We're only really like this when we're around you..."
"Huh?"
You were a bit surprised at that. Never would you have come to that conclusion.
"You're one of the only people I really tolerate."
Yang muttered, seemingly embarrassed.
"To this extent, at least. You're... special, or whatever."
You... didn't expect that. You never really thought of yourself as someone special. Always, you had thought of yourself as someone completely not worth paying attention to. Someone that had no place existing.
So hearing those words... you almost couldn't believe them. You had never really been anything special to anyone, not even your own family.
Being special to someone...
You wrapped your arms around around them, holding them close to you.
"...This feels really nice."
You finished your thought out loud, feeling your roommates relax into you.
Yeah, this did feel really nice.
And like that you stayed.
