"Owww, It's so beautiful." Max complimented Maddie and I agreed. "You know, out of the three of us, I never thought Maddie would be the first one to get married. I always thought it would be me." Max said and we all laughed.
"I always thought it would be Blue first." Maddie replied.
"Think about it, you were afraid to even look at a boy, let alone talk to him." Max told Maddie. "Blue chased them away, most guys are scared of her. So which leaves us to mour" Max pointed himself.
"Yeah, you were the last one on my list." I told Max. "I mean you had a new boyfriend every two months- you still do."
"It's not my fault my relationships don't last." Max defended and both Maddie and I laughed.
"So out of all your thousand failed relationships, none of them is your fault." I raised my eyebrow at him. "You and I are single birds Max. And there's nothing wrong with that."
Max shrugged his shoulders. "Atleast I get laid."
"Wow!" I said and they both laughed.
"I mean.. don't compare yourself to me, I get it and you don't." He added still laughing.
I heard the door knock and I rolled my eyes chuckling, standing up to get the door.
"Your father wants to talk to you." Tina, My father's wife, said as soon as I opened the door.
I don't know why it was easy for me to refer to my uncle as dad, but never mom to his wife. It was just something I grew up with, she may be Max's mother, but I never really saw her as mine. We've never been close. We do communicate from time to time, there's definitely no bad blood between us. It may be the fact that she and I have nothing in common. But.. other than that, she's a great woman, a loving and supportive mother to Max. A caring and loving wife to my dad.
"Did he say what it's about ?" I asked her and she shaked her head.
"He just said you should report to his office right now."
"Okay thanks." I told her and got inside the room to put on my slippers. I told Maddie and Max that I'll be back before heading out of the door. I went down the stairs since my father's office was downstairs, at the far end of the house.
An office meeting with my dad is never great news. I either have to go on a mission- which I don't have this week. I completed my work so it's definitely not a mission. That's why I'm saying, this can't be good news.
I knocked on the door as soon as I got to his office. He told me to come in so I entered and closed the door behind me. I sat on the chair opposite to my father's, who had his eyes in his laptop.
"Our warehouse was under attack." He said as he finally directed his gaze at me.
"Again ?"
"Yeah, and this time fourteen of our men were killed. It was a clear warning from the Mafia." He responded.
"Dad I can't understand why we can't retaliate. This is the third attack and we've done nothing." I said. "What? We're just gonna sit and wait for the fourth one ?"
"Blue you know the reason why we can't retaliate. We will be starting a battle we can't win."
"They've already started the battle, we're just fighting back." I replied irritated. I was so fed up with this situation and my dad not wanting to do anything about it.
"We could never win even if we fight back. We're talking about the Mayville Mafia. They've dominated the streets, taking over for the past five years. They are a mafia and we're just a small time gang compared to them."
"Blue they took over every gang we know. And now they're after us, they are out to destroy us and take our territory. We don't stand a chance against the Mafia." My dad added and for the first time in my life, I saw fear in his eyes.
He was scared and this says a lot. My dad doesn't fear anything or anyone. He handled every enemy that came after us with great pride. He handled every disruption, every challenge, every gang and always succeeded. That's why we were always at the top, until this Mafia came in the picture.
"What do you suggest we do ?"
"An alliance." He sighed. "It's the only option. We have to convince the Mafia to work with us."
"Okay dad, let me get this straight." I chuckled. "You want us, to work with the Mafia that killed more than fifty of our men, took our merchandise and cost us millions ?"
"Do you have a better plan ?" He raised his eyebrow. "If we work with them, we avoid a loosing battle, we get to keep our territory and we get more power and protection."
Maybe he's right. Going into battle with a mafia will backfire badly. I know that if my dad saw us winning this, then he would've retaliated at the first attack. I hate the idea of working with people who picked a fight with us out of nowhere. But this might be the smartest option.
"Okay." I sighed heavily. "How we gonna do this ? I mean no one knows the leader, how do we get in contact with him ?"
"We'll figure it out, but what I do know is that he'll be at the Met Karlos this weekend. We'll start there."
"And I have no choice but to go ?" I asked, already knowing the answer.
"Yes. You don't have a choice." He chuckled and I joined in.
I knew better than to argue with him. As much as I hate these events, I have to do this, for our gang, for our legacy. The Met Karlos is an annual event, hosted at the city hall. Everyone might think it's a huge party for rich people to gather along. But it's infact a party for criminals to get together, form alliances and actually get along for just one night of the year.
Gangs, Mafias, drug Cartels, mobs, every type of organised crime group you can name, will be there. I've been to this event twice, my father is the one who usually attends them. But ever since I found out he's handing his position to me, he's been giving me his duties, which are a lot more responsibilities.
Yes, I'm gonna be a gang leader a year from now. Which is why it's so important for me to take care of this new Mafia situation. If I don't, there won't even be a gang to lead.
