We entered McDonald's and I ordered on the self-service kiosk machine. I ordered two kids Happy Meal. One happy meal consists of a hamburger, kids fries, apple slices, choice of beverage and a Happy Meal toy. I ordered for myself, Deluxe crispy chicken, French fries, McNuggets along with a cheeseburger and coke. Old habits die hard.
I paid using my card on the machine, took the slip and we went to sit down.
"Mommy."
"Mmhhh ?" I raised my eyebrow at her and she pouted. She wants something. "What do you want ?"
"Will we have ice cream when we're done ?"
"You ate a whole candyfloss, alone. I think you've had enough sugar for today." I told her. If there's one thing Kiara has inherited from me, then it's my love for junk food. She has this obsession with sugar that I really don't understand. We literally had to get a lock for the pantry door. It's for her health, I swear.
I won't lie, my heart will break, leaving McDonald's without a Mcflurry in hand. She's the one that ate a ton of sugar, not me. But I'll have to compromise. I can't eat something I'm restricting her to eat, especially infront of her.
"Okay, why don't you buy one for Kai ? He didn't want the candyfloss so he didn't have much sugar. Buy ice cream for him."
"So you can eat half of it ?" I raised my eyebrow and she nodded. I chuckled. "Okay Kai, do you want the ice cream ?"
He put his finger on his chin pretending to think. He was really enjoying having power over his sister.
"Pleaseee Kai." Kiara pouted at him.
"I don't want it, so what would I get out of it if I told mom to buy it for me ?" He folded his arms as he raised his eyebrow at her.
"You would be making your little sister happy ?" She said in the sweetest voice. Kai shrugged his shoulders as if telling her it's not a good enough reason. "Okay you can use the iPad even when it's my turn for a week."
"Two weeks." He bargained and Kiara nodded eargely.
"Deal." He patted her head and she quickly removed his hand. "Mom. I want the ice cream."
I chuckled as I got up when I saw our order number on the screen and went to get the food. I sat down with the tray and served the twins their food then also took mine.
We ate together, with the twins telling about who took who's toys, who hit who, who's parents did what, who changed pre-school. It was like an episode of The Gossip. Except this time it was about kindergarteners.
"And then Mrs Barker told Kai and his friend to stop playing outside during painting class." Kiara said and Kai sticked his tounge at her.
"Which friend was that ?" I asked her, Kai not enjoying any of this because he was getting ratted out.
"I don't remember... Kai was it Liam or was it the one that once broke my glasses ?"
"It was-"
"Hi." A male voice interrupted Kai. I looked at the guy and he smiled at me. "Is this this seat taken ?" He asked pointing to the empty chair on our table.
"Yes." Kai answered immidietly looking at the man. He was an attractive looking guy, dirty blonde hair, tall, blue hazel eyes, he was fine, but just not for me.
"Oh." He chuckled. "They look really cute. Are they twins ?"
"I think that's pretty obvious." Kai responded again before I could say anything. "Can you please move? We're trying to eat ?"
The man chuckled awkwardly, poor guy obviously embarassed. I gave Kai a glare but it was like he didn't even care. "Ohh look, that seat's free." Kai said as he pointed to an empty table. "Even that one. One, two, three, four.. five tables are empty."
The guy smiled, nodding and got out of our site. I'm not suprised by Kai's behaviour though. It's not the first or second or third time he's done this. Everytime when we're out and a guy tries to get close to me, he goes to full mode daddy duty. I don't know who told him he's my dad, but he definitely forgets who the parent is.
I get it though, Kai is overprotective of both his sister and I. He'll do anything when it comes to the two girls in his life. I think it's cute and thoughtful, but sometimes it can get a little.. over the board.
There was this one time, it was actually last week, he hit a seven year old with a golf ball. A whole fucking golf ball. We were at the park and I took my eyes off them for one second, one second, and he had already made a scene at the park. Apparently the seven year old pushed Kiara, causing her to fall, because he wanted to get on the swing first. Kai saw the whole thing, picked up a golf ball and hit the kid in the back of his head. I don't know how he aimed right because the boy was a lot taller than Kai, but he certainly managed to do it.
I was just putting back everything in the picnic basket, when I heard a kid screaming and crying. Parents going to the swing, to see what was happening. When I looked, Kiara was on the floor, eyes going back and forth between Kai and the kid. Kai looking angrily at the kid who was weeping uncontrollably, holding the back of his head. He didn't even show remorse, it was like, the louder the kid cried, the more irritated Kai got. I mean he had already done enough damage, I know he would've picked a fight if the kid wasn't so much bigger than him. He just saw the golf ball as an easy way out.
My son is sweet, I promise. Until he isn't. You wouldn't want to mess with him by hurting his Kiki. Him and his sister fight a lot, but according to him, only he's allowed to mess with Kiara.
"What you did was wrong." I told him after we finished our food.
"What did I do ?" He asked innocently. Yeah, I'm not buying that.
"Don't you know it's rude talking to someone like that ?" I raised my eyebrow intimidatingly.
"Doesn't he know it's rude to interrupt people while they're eating ?" He responded and I glared at him. Did I also mention he has answers for everything ? "Okay mom, tell me what I said wrong."
"Sometimes it's not what you say, it's how you say it." I told him and he looked at me confusedly. Okay, I'll explain it this later. I thought to myself as I cleaned our table and threw everything inside the trash can.
I took out my phone and the first thing I saw was my dad's text from two hours ago.
Escobar : my office tomorrow, 12pm.
