"if i'm being honest, i probably need one, anyway. i'm stuck in this house all day, everyday. it'll be good for me, i promise." minho said enthusiastically.

she looked at him for a moment before nodding slowly.

"if you want one then go for it, baby." she said cheerfully.

minho smiled widely and pulled her into another hug.

"thank you, mum. now go make some men cream!" he laughed as they pulled away.

she laughed hysterically as she walked to grab her purse.

"i will, you know i always do!" she sighed happily as she stood by the door.

"bye mum. i'll see you tomorrow?" minho asked.

she nodded.

"of course, min. i love you. study hard!" she cheered before closing the door.

"you know it!" he laughed, watching the door close.

silence.

his smiled faltered slowly.

his hands played with each other nervously as he looked around the house.

it was messy and crowded.

it was dirty and small.

it was old and just plain awful.

he knew they were poor.

but he'd never heard his mother ever mention the word or any words that associate with it.

she acted as if they had everything they needed.

she wasn't exactly wrong.

but she wasn't exactly right, either.

sure, they had a roof over their heads, food, water, each other...

but they didn't have the designer clothes everyone at his school has or even a car...

minho got a scholarship into one of the private schools near him because of his intelligence.

they payed for his uniform, bag, locker, books, school supplies, laptop, etc.

he was glad they had uniforms at this school.

he despised non-uniform days.

he was ashamed, embarrassed, scared...

but he had friends.

he had people he trusted enough to have over at his house.

for example felix and jisung, his best friends.

but he knows that they're each other's best friend.

he doesn't mind.

but he knows that they're always down to come over.

they love coming over and just hanging out with him and his mum.

nobody at his school know he's short on money.
