Chapter 1: The Child

Start from the beginning

Jarvis; like always sir. You will have a good night's rest.

Wade: that's if the nightmares don't wake me up. What time does my dad leave at?

Jarvis: early, sir, he didn't say when.

Wade: probably earlier than that woman would wake up. That means I'll most likely see her. Jarvis can you wake me up after that lady that's in dad's room leaves?

Jarvis: certainly, sir.

Wade changed to his pjs which were Ben 10 pjs. He's 14 and he's a prodigy, let him be a little childish. He went to his bed and got under the covers.

Jarvis: Night light on, sir?

Wade: not tonight, Jarvis. Goodnight. <gets comfortable>

Jarvis: goodnight, sir.

The next day

Jarvis: good morning. It's 7:30 am.

Wade wakes up as he gets up and stretches, he took a quick shower and changed to his normal clothes and went down to have breakfast which was a sausage, egg and cheese biscuit with orange juice.

Pepper:<walks through the front door> good morning, Wade.

Wade: morning, Pepper. Workshop?

Pepper: workshop.

Wade: at least I didn't have to see that lady he brought last night.

Pepper: yeah good thing since she was a reporter.

Wade: good thing I avoided her.

Wade finished his breakfast as he and Pepper go down to the workshop where Tony was working on a car that had the engine exposed. Wade inputs his own code as he and Pepper enter the workshop. Pepper turned off Tony's music. She was on the phone as she also had a clipboard under her arm.

Pepper: I'm gonna try again, right now.

Wade: morning, dad.

Tony: morning, kiddo. Pepper, please don't turn off my music.

Pepper: I'll keep you posted. <hangs up> you are supposed to be halfway around the world right now.

Tony: how'd she take it?

Pepper: like a champ.

Tony: why are you trying to hustle me out of here?

Pepper: your flight was scheduled to leave an hour and a half ago.

Tony: that's funny, I thought with it being my plane and all, that it would just wait for me to get there.

Pepper: Tony, I need to speak to you about a couple things before I get you out of the door.

Tony: doesn't it kind of defeat the whole purpose of having your own plane if it departs before you arrive?

Pepper: Larry called. He's got another buyer for the Jackson Pollock in the wings. Do you want it? Yes or no.

Tony: is it a good representation of his spring period?

Pepper: no. The springs was actually the neighborhood in East Hampton where he lived and worked, not "spring" like the season.

Tony: so?

Pepper: I think it's a fair example. I think it's incredibly overpriced.

Tony; I need it. Buy it. Store it.

Pepper: ok. <writes it down>

Wade: dad, I need a few more parts to complete my invention.

Tony: have you checked the warehouse at Stark Industries?

Wade: I don't have clearance to go in there.

Tony: that's stupid, I'll fix that.

Pepper: the MIT commencement speech...

Tony; is in June. Please, don't harangued me about stuff that's way, way, down...

Pepper: they're haranguing me. So I'm gonna say yes.

Tony: deflect it and absorb it. Don't transmit it back to me.

Pepper; I need you to sign this before you get on the plane.

Tony; what are you trying to get rid of me for? What, you got plans?

Pepper: as a matter of fact, I do.

Tony: I don't like it when you have plans.

Pepper: I'm allowed to have plans on my birthday.

Tony; it's your birthday?

Pepper: yes.

Tony: I knew that. Already?

Pepper: yeah. Isn't that strange? It's the same day as last year.

Tony: get yourself something nice from me.

Pepper: I already did. I'll probably just spend the day with Wade.

Tony: and?

Pepper: oh, it was very nice.

Tony: yeah.

Pepper: very tasteful. Thank you, Mr Stark.

Tony: you're welcome, Miss Potts.

Wade saw the interaction between them with a smile.

Tony; why are you smiling?

Wade: no reason. <walks out of the workshop>

Tony; he has something planned. Maybe it's for you.

Pepper: maybe it is since he always remembers my birthday.

Tony left like 2 hours later as Pepper went to the kitchen and Wade was there with a cake which was messily decorated.

Wade: happy birthday, Pepper.

Pepper; did you make this?

Wade: I did. Eat at your own risk, I need to take cooking classes.

Pepper: this is baking.

Wade: that too.

Pepper: thank you. <kisses his forehead>

Wade: dad left, three hours after he was scheduled to leave.

Pepper: he does have that habit.

Wade: so I'll be in my room. You can enjoy the cake and your day. There's not much I can do here.

Pepper: it's okay. You've done enough. This is... enough.

Wade: right. Have a nice birthday, Pepper. <goes to his room>

Pepper: thank you.

Hours later

Wade was still working on his medigun as the chemicals which were different types of medicine didn't want to mix.

Wade: I'm missing something. But what?

There was a knock on the door.

Wade:<opens the door> hey, Pepper.

Pepper:<looks in distress>

Wade: what is it?

Pepper: it's Tony... he's missing.

Wade: what?
