Ivan's voice floated to me from the other side of the room. I was standing by the window, staring into space. Turning around when I heard his voice, I strode around my desk toward him and asked, "And where is my Sun Summoner?"
"She's just crossed the Fold and is now in Os Kervo with the tracker. She obtained a ship captain who is willing to take her to Ketterdam. We've been able to track her because as far as we know, the tracker hasn't used any of the money you gave him. They've still been using the pins."
Of course. Why would he use money he might not need when he could use the pins from Alina? Selfish brat.
"Oh, Ivan, did you hear about that group of Fjerdans that ransacked a house in a village not far from here? I heard that a group of Grisha picked them up and that they were following Alina."

I had heard that there was a kid in Ketterdam by the name of Kaz Brekker who was good at jobs that were a little too dirty for people higher up. "Ivan, have you ever heard the name Kaz Brekker?"
He nodded. "Young kid in Ketterdam, does pretty much anything for a good amount of money?"
"That's him. I'm going to Ketterdam. When does Alina's ship leave?"
"One week from tomorrow."
"Perfect. Arrange for me to get to Ketterdam in two days. I want the fastest transportation in Ravka."

I arrived in Ketterdam in exactly two days. Ravka had very conveniently obtained the newest Fjerdan blueprints for a vehicle that flew without Squallers a few months back. The Fjerdans had called it a flygplan, which in Ravkan translated to aircraft. Ravka had perfected that design, using a stronger but lighter alloy for the metal frame, and made it so the original engines were boosted by Squaller power. The result was a stronger, more durable, much faster aircraft. Ivan had gotten me the fastest one with our best Squallers and I had gotten there in no time at all. The best thing about it was that on a horse, you had to stop and let the horse rest, but on the aircraft, the Squallers just went on shifts.
We had landed in a deserted field just outside Ketterdam so as to not be spotted. The Fjerdans still didn't know that we had the blueprints for their flygplan, and I wanted to keep it that way. I jumped out and ordered the Squallers to take the aircraft to the most deserted place they could find. I would walk to the city, since I couldn't bring a horse, and find Brekker from there.
