Adam just snickered.
"Should've moved quicker"
Ross stood up, putting his brush down on his desk and frowning.
"Dad."
"Sorry kiddo, excited?" Adam asked, walking over.
"Eh..." Ross looked away, meeting his reflection's gaze and sighing "I...guess..."
Adam's expression soured, Graduation had been all his son was able to talk about for months now. So why was he suddenly so downtrodden about it?
"You alright Ross?"
"I'm...I...uh..." he stared at the ground for a minute before speaking up again "I'm...uncomfortable?"
"You sound unsure about that"
"Dad! You know neither of us are good with...verbalizing things!" Ross replied quickly "I'm...I don't know if I want to do that speech..."
Adam sighs, ruffling his son's hair - a stranger thing to do than it used to be, being that Ross was 18 and only just barely shorter than him.
"Why not?"
"I'm not good at speeches! I can write poems and stories but I can't do speeches! I'll just mess it up, I'd rather not go..."
Adam closed his eyes for a minute, thinking about how to respond, like Ross had said - neither of them were good with verbalizing emotions, albeit Adam had always insisted Ross was better at it.
Eventually he spoke up.
"Neon hal su isseo, Ross" He says, in - thankfully still fluent - Korean "Naneun neoleul midneunda. Neo jasin-eul mid-eo la"
Ross blinked, pausing for a second as he played the sentences over in his head. A lot slower with his Korean than his father was. Eventually it clicked and his eyes lit up.
["You can do it, Ross. I believe in you. Believe in yourself"]
"T-" he stopped cleared his throat and responded again "Gomabseubnida, Abeoji"
["Thank you, father"]
Adam chuckled.
"Nicely done, you're getting better"
"Ye!" Ross smiled proudly.
"Now come on kiddo" Adam pulled up his long sleeve, looking at his watch "If you get downstairs and eat now they'll be time for mum to cut your hair before we go"
"Wait what...?"
Adam snickered.
"You think I haven't noticed your frustration? I thought maybe you'd appreciate a haircut"
Ross chuckles, running a hand through his hair.
"Yeah, I don't think I can pull off the long curly hair"
"Let's go."
----------------------------------------------------------
"Where are you going Dad?" A dusty blonde haired teen questioned, resting his head on his hand while absentmindedly spinning his spoon around in his cereal.
"I have a job interview today, remember?" He says quickly adjusting his tie "I already told you this Richard"
Richard groans, looking away.
"...Will the interview be done in time for my Graduation?"
"I don't know"
"...Why'd you have to arrange an interview for today? You knew my graduation was coming up..."
