Kie's POV:
Dylan was standing there with flowers and he wanted to talk to me.
"Dylan, I don't want to talk. We dated and we're over. I'm with JJ and nothing is going to change my mind" I said firmly
"Too bad" He said walking away
My roommate, Grace, said, "I'm so glad he just left. He needs to get over you"
"I know, it's annoying" I said
That night, when I was talking to JJ, I told him what happened with Dylan, and he was glad I told him and thought it was weird why Dylan cared so much
JJ had booked a trip to come out here in June right before my summer semester started. I was so excited to see him in three months. I missed him so much already and it hasn't even been that long. Dylan finally left me alone and in June, JJ came to visit me. It has been so long since I've seen him.
I picked him up from the airport and we had that dramatic movie airport welcome home hug and kiss. We went back to my house and the next day, we just spent the whole day together doing absolutely nothing in particular, just hanging out together.
JJ was here for two more days before he had to fly back home. Today, we got up and he took me out to breakfast and we were all dressed up. After we were walking on the beach and JJ surprised me with a balloon ride with Andrew.
"There's my favorite couple" Andrew smiled as he saw us
We got in the balloon and we had the sky to ourselves. It was so beautiful up here. Andrew looked at us and JJ said, "You know, I gotta be honest, man. When you first met us, we weren't actually together"
JJ told Andrew the story and he couldn't believe it. Andrew was just glad to see us together and so happy. It made him believe in true love.
JJ and I were talking about old memories and he said, "You know that I've always liked you, but I knew that I loved you when we were in eighth grade. You were all at the Chateau and going to go surfing. I showed up and said I didn't feel good and to go without me. You stayed with me and you took care of me after my first fight. You didn't look at me any different after I opened up to you that day like most people do. I knew that I wanted to marry you after that and that's still true today. I love you so much, Kie and I know we're young, but I don't want to wait. Will you marry me?"
JJ was down on one knee holding a gorgeous ring. I was trying so hard not to cry. I looked into his blue eyes and said, "Yes, of course"
He stood up and hugged me. Our huge broke and he slipped the ring on my finger. It was a perfect fit. I kissed him and said, "I love you so much"
"I love you too" He replied
Andrew got the whole thing on video and I realized that JJ planned this whole proposal. It was so sweet and so special. We took so many pictures after and then we facetimed the pogues. They all answered eventually and I held up my hand with the ring on my finger and said, "We're engaged"
"OMG!!! My favorite couple is finally getting married" Sarah said
"Wow, JJ finally popped the question. Congrats guys!" John B said
"That's crazy!!!! Can't wait for the wedding" Pope said happy for us
We talked to them for a few more minutes and then we facetimed my parents. I was quite nervous for this one. My mom picked up and she was with my dad.
"Hi, Kiara"
"Hi" I said smiling
"JJ proposed" I said just spitting it out and showing them my ring and JJ was right there with me
My mom and dad were quiet at first and then my mom said, "Congratulations, the ring is beautiful and so you. JJ did a great job picking it up"
She smiled JJ said, "Thank you"
"I can't wait to walk you down the aisle" My dad said
We talked to them and they weren't mad like I expected. I hugged JJ after we hung up with them and said, "I'm so happy they weren't mad. But even if they were, it doesn't matter because I love you"
"I love you too, now you can do all the wedding planning"
I looked at him and thought about us. My mom always wanted me to have a huge beautiful wedding, but right now I just wanted something small and simple.
"You have to help me but I want it small and lowkey"
"Me too" He agreed
JJ and I shared the picture on social media and then we went back to my house where my roommates were all freaking out. JJ and I eventually made it to my bedroom where we celebrated our engagement.
I laid in bed with my hand resting on his chest and I was admiring the ring. It was simple but so beautiful. It was totally me and something I would have picked out for myself.
"J, were you going to propose to me on New Year's?" I asked thinking back to how strange he was acting that night and how he searched his pockets just before midnight
He chuckled and said, "I was planning on it but my dumbass forgot the ring"
"How do you forget the ring?" I asked laughing
"I was nervous"
"I'm glad you forgot it because the balloon was so special" I said kissing him
He looked at me and said, "The balloon was the plan all along. When I came here last time and saw Dylan in your room, I wanted to propose that weekend. I had everything set up. That's kinda why I left. I didn't want to propose if we were fighting"
"Wow, I really fucked that up"
"No, it was my fault too. I'm just glad the proposal is finally over. I was so nervous"
"You played it off well because I didn't suspect a thing. I didn't even know you had a ring. Wait, I get it now. That's why you were working two jobs and always so busy"
"Yeah, I wanted to get you something you'd love"
"I love my ring so much, J but you know I would have been happy even if you proposed with a ring pop"
"That's why I love you" He said kissing my head
As a little girl, I dreamed of getting married. I always thought I would marry a rich kook. That's exactly what I wanted a little girl. The older I got, the more I realized kooks suck and I met my best friends.
When I first met JJ, I never thought he'd be the one I'd fall in love with. I expected maybe a kiss or a hookup, but never this. This was more than I dreamed of as a little girl. I couldn't be happier right now.
Now I had to graduate college, get married, go on a surf trip with JJ, and have a baby. This was just the beginning of our love story.
