I woke up to people talking, their voices would raise only to go into a whispered hush. I quickly, but quietly, got out of my bed and went and sat at the top of the stairs to listen.

"The longer we wait to tell her, the harder it will be for her! She needs to know. She can't keep going around killing.." my mom said, continuing. I could hear them whispering, but I couldn't make out exactly what they were saying.

It sounded like "Just give it more time, be patient,” coming from my father.

I tried hearing more of what was being said..

Nothing.

I stepped down a few more stairs to get a better listen. My footing slipped and I banged my elbow into the wall. Fuck.

"Morning, Danny. Why don't you come down and join us?" I heard my father say.

Stupid feet.

"Good morning." I smiled brightly.

My mom was pouring herself another cup of blood with her good hand, the other one was in a bandage, but was probably healing quickly. Blood gave us energy, being vampires and all. Plus, coffee was bad for us, made us weaker.  Again, not me, I have no idea why, my parents said it was because I was younger, so I had I higher tolerance to it. But when I asked Kristel or my other friends, they said it made them sick.

My dad was eating toast and reading the paper. They didn't glance my way.

"What were you guys talking about?" I asked, casually, with a shrug of my shoulders.

My dad looked up, my mom shortly after. They glanced at each other.

"I told you, we need to tell her!" my mother said frustrated.

"Tell me what?" I asked, frowning.

"We’re going i-into town t-today,” my father covered.

"I don't think that's what mom was talking about,” I said, "You guys raised me better than that, what are you not tellingl me?" I demanded.

“Dann—“ my mom started.

"Morning, what's for breakfast?" Isaiah mumbled, rubbing the sleep from his eyes.

"Mom what—“ I quipped.

"Later." my mom said, firmly.

"But-" She interrupted again, "I said, later. Now, leave it at that."  She faked smiled. "Why don't you guys go get some clothes on, I'll pack something for the road, we're going into town today!" She high-fived my still half asleep brother.

He instantly perked up. "We're going into town? Yes! Thank you, thank you, thank you, mom and dad! Danny, I knew you could do it!" He ran over and jumped onto me, squishing me in a bear hug; he was twelve, I was seventeen, he was just as big as me.

"Okay, okay! Can't. Breathe,” I gasped out.

"Oops, sorry." He smiled and got off me, running full speed up the stairs to his bedroom to get ready.

"Hurry up, you have to get dressed as well,” my father said, tapping my shoulder.

"You guys have to tell me what you were talking about!" I pouted.

"We will. Later,” he reassured.

"Well, when's later?" I whined.

“Daniella.” He said roughly.

"Fine," I sighed. I walked out of the kitchen, up the stairs and stomped slowly down the hall to my bedroom.

"Danny! Hurry up! You haven't even changed yet?" Isaiah pushed my back, making me move faster towards my bedroom.
