Teardrop beamed, sending the duo a thumbs up. They then held out their hand, signaling for them to wait before they pulled out some index cards held together with a rubber band.
"Oh, you already have some!" Guarana smiled, looking at them. "You wanna help us out?"
Teardrop nodded, releasing the stack from the rubber band. She laid the cards out on the ground so the trio could see them easily. The three spent a while together in front of the vending machine seeing if the method worked for Graffiti. At some point, it decided to shift into the forms of the drawing. Being the shape itself helped frame its understanding in some sort of way. They eventually ran out of index cards to use and Teardrop had to pile them all, tying them together.
"Man, I am spent," Graffiti huffed, laying down on the ground. Taking on that many forms can be exhausting, but it only ached a bit since he didn't exert himself too much.
"But it was worth it, wasn't it?" Guarana asked.
"If you buy me another Dr. Fizz, I'll pretend it was," it joked. Teardrop rolled her eyes playfully, nudging its arm. He understood the joke. Don't say my teaching was worth nothing.
"Like hell I'm going to waste another coin on you," Guarana smiled.
'I wouldn't either,' Teardrop signed. The two began to laugh together, Teardrop's laughter being silent.
Graffiti pushed himself up. "Hey, what's so funny?" he huffed, not wanting to be left out of the joke. Guarana's growing laughs at his expression made him cross his arms. "Seriously! What's so funny?"
"Maybe if you understood sign language you'd get it," Guarana teased, poking his side. Graffiti swatted them away with another huff.
"Well, teach me that next! I wanna know how to talk to Teardrop, bro!" he huffed. "Even if she's water, she helped me today! That means she's lit," it nodded.
Teardrop squinted at Graffiti before they signed something. Guarana snorted. "What does being made out of water have to do with anything?"
Guarana could capture the exact moment panic struck Graffiti's face. "Nothing! Nothing at all!" it exclaimed, waving its hands in front of itself in defense. "Being made out of water is totally cool!"
Guarana rolled his eyes. "Water hurts him," they explained. "That's why he's being a total wussy around you."
It gasped with indignation. "I'm not a wussy! I'll prove it to you, bro!" it huffed, crossing its arms.
"Yeah, sure dude, but you're getting off-topic," Guarana smiled. "So you wanted to learn more about sign?"
"Not right now! My brain is packed with all these words and shit, bro. Not to mention all that fizz..."
"Oh, should've expected. Your brain size probably can't handle all of those things at the same time," he laughed.
Graffiti glared at him playfully. "If you don't stop talking, I'm going to pry your husk open and throw you."
"Like you're strong enough to do that," Guarana smirked.
"Oh, please! I'm the strongest object on earth!" it declared.
"I'll believe it when I see it, man," they snickered.
Graffiti huffed again, crossing his arms and leaning against the vending machine. "Whatever, dude..."
Teardrop leaned towards the duo, happy to listen to their banter. She smiled at the both of them and casually drank her water. She set the bottle down before signing to Guarana.
Smiling under his husk, he turned to Graffiti. "Teardrop says they appreciate you wanting to know sign to talk to them."
Graffiti blinked before turning away, hiding his blush of embarrassment. "It's not a big deal! Just bro code, you know?"
"Basic decency is bro code now?" Guarana laughed.
"Yep," he said, popping the 'p'.
Guarana crossed his arms. "You can just admit you're a softie, bro."
Its eyes widened. "I'm not a softie!" it exclaimed, sounding offended.
"Whatever helps you sleep at night," they smirked.
Graffiti grumbled though it wasn't doing a very good job of hiding its smile. Guarana stared at him for a moment, admiring the way his smile looked. They grinned under their husk as his happiness was infectious. That's what they loved about their friend.
Sitting on the ground and feeling the metal of the vending machine against their husk was better knowing Guarana was spending it with two friends, especially a new one he and Graffiti made. They didn't know much about Teardrop but if she was willing to hang around and help their friend, she was cool in their book. Plus, it was always fun to see Graffiti's transformations. Teardrop's reaction to seeing it firsthand was similar to how he reacted when Graffiti showed him. It was fun.
Guarana hoped he can spend more days like this, surrounded by a warm and content feeling.
"You owe me a coin for your drink, by the way."
Guarana had a great day with his friends.
