The person shook her head and simply pointed behind the duo to the vending machine.
"Oh, sorry about that. Our bad," Guarana said, grabbing Graffiti's wrist and pulling them out of her way. The person observed the vending machine, her foot tapping against the ground. Then, she smiled. They hit the side of the machine a few times, punched a few buttons, and kicked the side once. A water bottle fell and they happily took it, sitting against the machine. The duo looked at each other before sitting down in their original spots as well.
"So what's your name, bro?" Graffiti asked, glad Guarana was between the two of them. Any close contact with water was risky. Not only did the person have a water bottle, but she was water herself.
She drank from the water bottle before setting it down and screwing the cap back on. She did a few motions which he recognized as sign language. "That's neat. The name's Guarana," he smiled.
Graffiti blinked, looking lost. "Huh?"
"Her name's Teardrop. They're doing sign language," Guarana explained.
Graffiti "Ohhhhh'd," and nodded. "Lit. I don't understand."
"To be fair, you barely understand the alphabet," he smirked.
"It's not my fault! Bees are supposed to be in hives, not in fucking letters!" Graffiti huffed, crossing its arms.
"Bee isn't in letters, dude. B is a letter," Guarana laughed. Beside him, Teardrop smiled, hiding their mouth behind their hands. You can tell they were laughing silently from the shaking of their shoulders.
"I know that! I'm just joking, I swear," Graffiti grinned. Normally it wouldn't specify that but it was probably because Teardrop was there with them.
"Oh, good. Cause the little faith I have in you would disappear if you didn't know the letters of the alphabet at least."
"Well, duh I know the letters! Do you really have that little faith in me?" it huffed.
"Do you really want me to answer that, man?" Guarana smiled.
"Nope," Graffiti answered. "I still find some bits of the alphabet stupid though... Who thought words would be a great idea? You just mash some letters together and bam! Word! But it never looks right, you know? I get all the building blocks of it but when thrown together, it's like someone made a shitty remix that scratches against your ear like sandpaper," it complained. "Words feel tight. Some of them totally kill my vibe!"
Teardrop blinked before signing something.
Graffiti paused. "What did she say?" he asked, interested.
"Apparently what you said reminded her of something. Her brother Gelatin is dyslexic," Guarana said. "Though her mom helped him with some flash cards."
'It was difficult,' Teardrop signed. 'Especially since he told us how words look to him. Sometimes they'd be jumbled tightly together which made him claustrophobic just looking at it, and other times it'd be as if letters were facing the other way or twisted when they weren't. Though when we associated drawings with words, it was able to help him get used to the shape of the words and letters.'
Before Graffiti could ask, Guarana beat him to it with a basic rundown of what Teardrop said. He blinked. "Huh, really? Man, I thought I was the only one who saw letters like that!" He turned to look at Teardrop. "Do drawings work?"
Teardrop nodded. 'At least for my brother.'
"At least for their brother," Guarana repeated to Graffiti.
"That actually sounds pretty awesome! Hey, do you think it would work for me?"
Guarana smiled at their friend. "Only one way to find out, dude. Hey, thanks for the advice, Teardrop," they said. "We hadn't known you for very long you're pretty cool."
