Six months too long

"Anything for you."

"They're calling me, I'm stretching it by calling you right now. I love you, three days. You'll make it. Bye!" Newt hung up straight away. Another three days of crying then.

His flight was in six hours.

"How's this?" The shop assistant asked.

The ring was a band of gold with a red stone embedded in the middle.

"It's beautiful." Newt took out his wallet where the money he saved was.

"Who's the ring for, if I may ask?" The shop assistant was wrapping the blue velvet box in a paper bag.

"Well, I've been with him for nearly eleven years now. We met when we were seventeen and fifteen and...it's been us against the world and our homophobic parents, his and mine." Newt handed over the rolled wad of money. The shop assistant took it and counted the money and looked up.

"You're fifty short."

Newt's heart dropped to his stomach. "What? I counted it right the first time, hang on." He searched through his wallet again. Nothing. Tears clouded his eyes. "I swear I had it." He whispered.

"Here." The shop assistant gave Newt a fifty euro note.

"If it's yours I can't take it." Newt's eyes widened.

"Yes, you will." Newt took the note and the assistant took it back. "That's all the money, would you like that tied?"

Newt nodded and watched as the shop assistant tied the bag with white string.

"Good luck." Newt took the box, thanked the shop assistant and hailed a taxi to get to the airport.

The flight was torture.

Newt never liked flying by plane, Thomas was always there to make it bearable. But time felt to go by at snail's pace. He sat in front of a mother and two kids, one of them wouldn't stop kicking the back of his seat. Newt didn't have the energy to do anything about it, he dealt with it.

Before he made it back to New York, he had to stop in Maine and wait two hours for the next flight.

Finally, he was in New York. He made it to the train with a minute before it left the station. He sighed in relief as he sat down. The last part of the journey was up underway.

"Excuse me?" Newt woke up. A woman with blue hair shook his shoulder. "You said to wake you at your stop?"

Newt looked out the window and saw the train slowing. "Yes, this is it, thank you."

As the train stopped, Newt stood up and exited the train. He breathed in the city air, glad to be home. Then he remembered Thomas was somewhere near and his heart started racing. He stood at a pillar and took out his phone.

I made it where r u??? He fired off a text. He got an immediate reply.

Look around ;) Newt obeyed, chewing his lip.

Nope gimme a sign🔮

Alright

Newt waited and then he heard whistling, just made it out in the dim. Girl from Ipanema? He thought. He kept looking, his eyes following any tall, dark haired man that passed.

It's been five minutes don't make me wait any longer Tommy
