"Hey! Enid, Wednesday! What did you guys get? I got Pilgrims World" I say getting closer to them. Enid jumps excitedly. "Really?!" She says jumping. I nod as she jumps more. "I have Pilgrims World too!" She says making me jump with her. "Y/n trade with me" Wednesday speaks up. My head snaps to her direction. "What? Why? I don't want to be by myself, I don't even know who i would be working with" I say holding my paper to my chest like it's the most precious thing in the world. "You won't be with someone you don't know, you'll be working with Ajax" she says. How do I know she's not lying to me? I raise my eyebrows. "I had thing look at Ajax's paper" she says holding the paper out as if knowing my response. I take her paper excited to catch up with Ajax, i haven't talked to him since yesterday. "What is this anyways? An antique shop?" I say reading it out loud. Enid tries not to laugh as she covers her mouth. I get confused at this. What the fuck? Why she laughing? Is it bad? I squint my eyes at her. "Let's not waste any time" Wednesday says turning around. "Wait why did you wanna switch?" I ask getting concerned. "I have to go to Pilgrim World" she says looking back at me giving me a look. Oh I guess she is onto something? I have no idea but I guess I'll let it slide.

     I walk to the place after a while of asking people around and as i look at what's on display I get creeped out. I cover my mouth as i swear tears fall out. Okay this is not funny!

     I get in the shop to see Ajax staring at this rat? I walk up to him and stare down at it as he looks at me. He goes back to inspecting it. "I'm pretty sure it's dead, see the tire treads across its tail?" He asks. "Local artist scooped that fella up right here on Route 22" a lady says scaring me and Ajax. We both look back to her. "You're telling me Someone actually goes out and collects roadkill and turns them into that?" I ask disgusted. "Can't keep them on the shelves, got a whole section dedicated to these beauties, squirrels, skunks, snakes, and my personal fave. Family of ferrets at a clambake, too cute" she says pointing at the ferrets that's just above eye level for me. "You two want to make yourself useful? I reckon they could use a good brush with a tangle teezer. It freshens up the fur" she says handing us a brush each. Come on Y/n think of something! "Maybe we can do that after a... and extended coffee break I say turning to look up at Ajax. Yeah good one Y/n! "Right Ajax?!" I say hinting to him. "Uh, yeah. We'll hit the weathervane, want us to pick you up something?" He says playing along. "No need to pay for that overpriced hipster swill, I'm brewing chaga. It's my own blend, mushroom tea, i forged those little buggers myself. Better get teasing, you're in for a treat" she says handing us the brushes. Ugh, nasty ass bitch. So close but yet so far. I sigh grabbing the brush.

     I see Ajax staring at these two dead, married animals? I don't know but he seems fixated on it. I walk up to him. "That is creepy as fuck" I say looking at it. "Do you think, squirrels and rats could ever work out? I mean they're two totally different species" he says looking at it, for a second he looks back at me with this look in his eye. "I mean I get where your coming from but honestly they have a lot more in common if you think about it, rats, people don't like them because we'll for one they take your food and two, I guess people just don't like them. As for squirrels people don't like them because they can give you diseases and stuff, so I think it could work out. It would just be them against the world" I say deep in thought. Why would he ask something like that? He looks at me and smiles. "Wow, that was... deep. Oh by the way I totally dig the way you scratched out the bottom of our boat at Poe Cup. It was pretty badass" he says with that same look in his eyes. I thought he would be mad, then again at the time I didn't care if he did get mad. I giggle and nod. He frowns. "You know, Gorgons are taught not to engage. You know, i don't want to accidentally stone someone" he speaks up. Was he trying to tell me something? "But I made an exception for you" he says smiling at me. How adorable. I smile back at him. "You know, i was thinking about sneaking behind the greenhouse tonight, it's supposed to be a blue moon. Which only happens every 23 years or something. Should get a pretty good view from there" he says out of nowhere. Okay you see I'm new to this school and I know what most kids do back there and to be honest I don't know if he knows that. "Oh nice sounds fun, but you do know that's where most kids go to hook up and shit right? I mean could get pretty awkward for you to be there by yourself?" I question. Is he trying to tell me he's gonna go make out with someone over there? Honestly this makes me feel some type of way but I can't explain it. Do I? Like, Ajax? No no that's crazy we're just friends.

     "Y/n, I literally spent the whole morning trying to get closer to you! I talked to you this whole time making sure it never went silent and I even hinted as much as I could. Just so you could go with me tonight behind the greenhouse!" He yells a bit too fast. I cover my mouth as realization struck me. So he wasn't trying to tell me about going there with a girl, he wanted to go with me? I don't know why but this confession makes me feel some type of way, without knowing I smile. "So that's why you couldn't stop talking? You wanted to me to go with you tonight?" I ask. He nods with a smile. "Ok, I'll go" I say smiling. He smiles wider jumping up and down a bit. "Hey Ajax! Can you help me move the badger dentist to the front window?!" The lady yells. Ajax looks at me again smiling before going. I smile realizing what happened.
