"Y/n what took you so long?" Enid says waiting at the boat. "Yeah you left earlier than us and we still made it here faster then you, your slow" Wednesday says. Honestly I don't take offense to this. "Yeah sorry I got caught up with something" I say scratching the back of my head and smiling. "Oh my god you know I heard that you switched out of your dorm because you didn't want to be with Ajax" Enid says in an excited tone. I sigh, but nod because it's true. She gasps. "I need the details after the race!" She says getting excited. "Me first" Wednesday says. Oh? I didn't know she had an ear for gossip. "Wednesday are you? Gossiping?!" Enid says getting more excited. Wednesday sighs then shakes her head "I want to talk to him about something else" she says. Oh really? What about? "Okay okay, the race is about to begin" I say going in the boat. I sit in the back, behind Wednesday.

I look to see who I'm competing against, as I look to the left I see Bianca looking at me. I glare at her. I mouth the words 'you and I have to talk'. She nods looking forward. I look at the other teams besides their boats and inspect who to look out for. Honestly, they don't look that hard to beat.

I look the the right side of me to see Ajax. I glare at him as he stares at me. Asshole move? Probably but everyone from yesterday morning had it coming. 'Can we please talk' I see him mouth. My list of people to talk to is pretty long so I don't really know if I have time for him. Maybe not today but I guess some other time. 'Maybe' I mouth back. He frowns looking ahead before the race starts.

     "What's do we have here? The runt of the litter" Bianca says to Wednesday. This bitch for reals need to chill out. "For the record, I don't believe that I'm better than everyone else. Just that I'm better than you" she snaps back. Ooh yes get it girl. "And that's on periodt" I cut in. Bianca glares.

     "I want to welcome you all to the Edgar Allen Poe cup, this is one of nevermore's proudest annual traditions dating back 125 years. Each team must row across to Raven Island, pull a flag from Crackstones Crypt, and justly back without sinking or being sunk. First team to cross the finish line with their flag wins the cup and bragging rights for a year as well as some special privileges. Let the Poe Cup begin!" She says firing a pistol into the air.
     "We got this!" I say as we push off.

     "Excuse us" I hear as Ajax's boat passes us. I look back to see if anyone is catching up to us, but instead I see Bianca nodding towards the dock. I look to see a boy nod and dive into the water. I mean it isn't cheating, but it's a dick move.

     I keep rowing until the boat next to us swings axes at the top half of our bodies making us all stop rowing and duck. I put my hand in the water to grow a vine and throw them off but the boat starts changing course. "Thank you Y/n! I don't know what you did but it totally threw them off!" Enid says. That wasn't even me? "That wasn't me" I say sticking my hand back in the boat and rowing. The boat the swung axes at us crashes, taking them out of the race.

     I see the siren that pushed the other boat out stick his head above the water and smile to Bianca's boat. Ok this is how they think their gonna win? I don't think so. I see Wednesday take out a spying glass and she looks at the siren the dove it's head back in the water. "You see it too? I got it" I say putting my hand in the water. "No why don't you use that to get us there faster?" Wednesday questions. Damn, this is embarrassing. "Yeah about that. I kinda don't have the strength to do that" I say putting my hand in the water. She shakes her head. "Don't, focus on rowing this boat." She says. I look at her confused. That siren is gonna get us soon. "Thing" she says as a hand comes into my vision. My jaw drops as I try not to scream. "What the fuck is that?!" I whisper-yell pointing at it. "Row!" Enid yells from the front. I nod and continue rowing while that hand pulls one of the switches on the boat. This seems to stop the siren. "You know what? I think I love you hand thingy" I say rowing the boat.

     We get to the island and I sit down because my wound. Enid stands up but Wednesday stops her. "Y/n can't protect the boat with her injuries, stay here and make sure Bianca can't sabotage our boat" she says. What a load of bullshit, I can watch this damn boat. Enid nods and sit down in front of me. Wednesday goes as I stand up. "What are you doing Y/n?" Enid asks. I walk over to the boat I saw Ajax in. "Sabotage" I say with an evil look on my face. I place my hand on the floor as vines start to grow I use the vines to make a hole on the bottom of the boat. I sit back down in our boat as Bianca's boat gets to the dock. Bianca and this other girl goes for the flag ruining my plan on sabotaging their boat.

"Listen in close girly, I'm about to spill that tea" I say leaning in. She giggle and leans in with an excited smile on her face. "Okay so, something happened between me and Ajax which made me dislike him so I went to go switch dorms with Ms. Weems and this is where it led to" I say not going into deep details.

What I didn't know is that Ajax was walking slowly so he could hear. I look over to see him looking at me. He had an expression on his face but I couldn't quite tell because of the makeup.

They row their boat out as I snap out and giggle. Wednesday comes back as Enid tells her to hurry up. We push off the dock trying to get ahead of Bianca because somehow she made it back before Wednesday.

"What going on?" Xavier asks as he sees the hole on their boat. Just as he speaks up about it we pass their boat. "Hah bitch that's what you get!" I say flipping off Ajax. "See ya jokers!" Enid yells as we pass them. I go back to rowing the boat. As we get close to Bianca's boat thing flips the other switch, making spikes go out the side of the boat. As we get closer to Bianca's boat a force pushes us away from the boat. That damn siren. Before I could do anything, thing jumps in the water and stops the siren. I don't know what he did but it worked. I see that we are far behind so I crouch over the boat and stick both of my arms in the water. I try my best to take control of the kelp so I can use it to push us forward faster. "What are you doing?!" Enid yells. "Trust me!" I yell back. I use all of my energy to take control of the kelp and push us forward with as much force as I could put on it. "Yes! Thank you Y/n!" Enid yells. "Yeah you better be" I say getting dizzy.
You see I can only grow vines and move them with ease but it takes a lot out of me when I have to reach for something that I didn't grow.

"Y/n are you okay?!" Enid yells from the front still rowing the boat. "Yeah just a little tired" I say laying back, my head going over the edge of the boat.
