Chapter 15: Return Of The Hugging Role Model

After over a year out from WWE, Bayley made her return at Summerslam, confronting Bianca Belair and Becky Lynch, flanked by the returning Dakota Kai and Iyo Sky. Damage CTRL had arrived in WWE, and were only interested in taking no prisoners, as well as taking championship gold. And soon enough, tag team gold came for Iyo and Dakota, winning them for a second time after defeating Alexa Bliss and Asuka at Crown Jewel. Bayley, meanwhile, had tried and failed twice to capture the Raw Women's Championship from Bianca, and frustrations were beginning to show. As she was in a rage backstage, having lost a number 1 contenders match against Alexa Bliss, she threw a plate of food which landed near the United States Champion, Josh Stevens.

Bayley: Oh god, Josh, I'm so sorry.

He picked off a bit of lettuce which landed on his shirt, and threw it in the bin.

Josh: It's fine, no harm done. Anyway, what's all the fuss about?

Bayley took a seat with him at the table and let her emotions do the talking.

Bayley: Just the fact that ever since I came back, it's been all about Dakota and Iyo and the tag titles. Nobody's paid much attention to me.

Josh: A rough patch, huh? We all go through it at some point. I was on a bad losing streak just before Wrestlemania this year, and at Mania itself, I beat Finn and Damien to win this. Haven't let go of it since.

Bayley: That's true, your match with Theory and  Lashley at Summerslam was pretty special. And the match against Seth recently on Raw... an absolute classic.

Josh: I guess I just have a habit of pulling out all the stops in big matches.

Bayley admired his confidence, and couldn't stop staring at him as he carried on talking. She was so entranced by Josh she didn't even notice Dakota and Iyo come behind her.

Dakota: Hey, Bay... whatcha looking at?

Bayley jumped in surprise.

Iyo: Ahh... Josh...

Dakota: Does someone have their eye on The Fallen Warrior?

Josh couldn't help but smile at Damage CTRL, and their assumption of Bayley liking Josh.

Josh: Go on, do you like me? In that way?

Bayley: Well... I...

Before Bayley could give a proper answer, Josh was called to gorilla for his 6 man tag team match, teaming with The OC's Gallows, Anderson and Mia Yim and to face The Judgement Day - as AJ Styles, Josh's good friend, was ruled out for up to 6 months with an ankle injury. As The OC revealed Josh as their mystery 4th partner, Dakota and Iyo couldn't help but tease their friend about the US Champion.

Iyo: So, do you really like Josh, Bayley?

Bayley: I... might do...

Dakota: Might do?! Come on Bay, it's clear you do! I mean, what we've just seen with you giving him those admiring eyes, and let's be honest...

The Kiwi got right up in Bayley's ear, whispering the next part so as not to draw much attention.

Dakota: I'm pretty sure at least half the WWE women have their eye on him. Even some NXT girls like Roxanne and Kiana, and even Daddy's little brat, that Tiffany Stratton.

Iyo: Make your move now! Before it's too late!

Bayley: I guess so, I mean, it has been a while since I've had a man in my life.

Dakota: Trust me, Josh is WAAAAAY more than a man...believe me, I know... 

Bayley and Iyo gave Dakota a wide eyed look of complete shock.
