A Second Chance

Part 12

Jamie walked into her hotel room, slamming her door shut. Her eyes started to water when her phone started buzzing- she was getting a phone call. 

"Hey Tasha."

"Girl are you okay? How was the evening?"

"I'm fine. I wasn't expecting to be this emotional after seeing Jimmy again."

"Well yeah, you thought you two were gonna get married, of course it's going to be hard."

"Yeah that's true."

"Come on Jamie, I'm always right you know this," both girls started laughing. Jamie was thankful to have met Tasha, a fellow AT for the 49ers, both girls bonded over their jobs and issues with dating quarterbacks. Tasha was currently in Georgia helping her boyfriend Justin who was transferring to Ohio State. 

"It was nice to see everyone again, ya know? Tom even made sure I got a ring."

"They gave you a ring?!" 

"Yep! All the athletic staff did."

"Did he talk to you at all?"

"Yeah."

"And...?" Tasha asked, but was responded with silence on the other end, "Jamie?"

"Hm? Sorry. I mean, he just said I looked nice and stuff like that." 

"Mhm. Okay."

"Tasha I can hear you smiling on the other end of the phone."

"What? No I'm not!"

"You are hiding something from me Natasha."

"No Jamie she definitely is. What are you hiding from her sweetheart?" Jamie could hear Justin over the phone. 

"I'm not hiding anything Justin! You two are ganging up on me!!" 

"Well I think it's deserved. Will you tell me later?" 

"Sure- I'll tell you later."

"Sorry Jamie, you're on your own!" Justin yelled. 

"Not fucking fair you two. Go Tasha, go help your boyfriend pack so he can become QB1 at Ohio State." 

"Love you Jamie!" 

"Love you too Justin."

"I'll be back in a few days Jamie. See you when I get back, love you!."

"Love you too Tasha."

[September 9, 2017] 

Jamie and T.J.'s 23rd birthday. Jamie spent her day working to make sure everything went smoothly for the Niners' season opener the next day, stretching out and taping players, being on and off the phone with hotels and flight agencies, making sure everything was in store for away games, and T.J. who was nervous for his first NFL game against the Browns. Jamie was suddenly snapped out of her work mode by a text from Jimmy: 

"Happy birthday! Hope you have an amazing day baby Watt :)" 

Jamie read his text with a smile on her face, responding: 

"Thanks Jimmy G! How's the ACL?" 

The time they had away from each other allowed them to form a friendship, a friendship both desperately needed. Jamie was now having issues with her boyfriend, Alex, a pharmacist. Jimmy was stressed that he now had to fight for backup with Jacoby Brissett, who Belichick drafted in 2016. Jamie and Jimmy then started making plans to see each other during their bye-week, with Jamie flying to Boston to see the team. 

"Hey J-dawg?"

Jamie put her phone down to see George Kittle standing at the door, "Hey George! What's up?"

"Can you help me stretch out my shoulder?" 

"Of course, that's what I'm here for Skittles." 

"I hate it when you call me that." 

"And I hate it when you call me 'J-dawg' but that doesn't stop you now does it?"

"Nope," George replied with a huge smile painted across his face, "how's the birthday tattoo?"

"A little sore, but it's okay."

"What does it mean again?"

"It's a lyric from my Grandpa and I's favorite song." 

"Bee Gees?"

"Of course."

"You need to get better music taste J-dawg."

"Hmmm... no."

[October 31, 2017] 

NFL Trade deadline. Kyle started his team meeting that day saying that there might be some trades made and contracts re-negotiated and that no one should assume that they were safe. Trade deadlines were probably the scariest part of the job, asides from getting injured, and every players feared the call saying they had to pack up and move. 

Jamie sat down in her office after finishing a tape job on Gould's ankle, stretching George's shoulder, and giving a freshly-traded Nick Bosa a tour of the facility. Practice was short and inside today, as winds were projected to hit over 40mph and the goal post was shaking as Jamie walked in earlier in the morning. Jamie's break was cut short by Kyle's kids running into her office in their Halloween costumes, trick-or-treating around the office. Carter was a robot, Stella was a princess, and little Lexi was a mermaid. The three kids equally split Jamie's candy stash and Jamie then started teaching them how to roll out after Lexi grabbed a foam roller and chased her brother around the office with it, before George burst into Jamie's office before dragging her back to her desk and closing the door. 

"Skittles what the hell is going on?"

"So you know today's the trade deadline?"

"Yeah...?"

"Jimmy's coming here."

"What?"

"Belichick traded Jimmy for a 2nd round pick. Jimmy is now our new quarterback."
