as you drop your weapons
and pick a shield
to hide your face
and all the reasons
you chose

And I'll watch you walk out
the battlefield
alone, bruised, unsurprised
from all the apathy
and the lies.

the ruins of a shattered kingdom
weeping, missing, grieving

of all that once was
