The REAL Chapter 1

Start from the beginning

She gulped down the water greedily as I gave her time to hydrate herself, because God know when we'll be able to taste water again.

I put my most comfortable shoes on, tying it twice for good measure, and checked my bag for the dozenth time, ticking things off that I've seen already inside the bag from my mental checklist. Once I'm satisfied, I clamped my hair up to get it away from my face.

I can't tie it because impulsive little me decided that giving myself a wolf cut at 3 AM would be good for my mental health, a sort of preparation for the outside world and a symbol of rebirth.

Yeah... bullshit.

I fucking regret it then, I fucking regret it now.

Not going to lie, it made me look good, aesthetic-wise. But for combat? I don't think so.

I made sure to tie a black bandana around Tootsie's neck to make her seem more badass and cooler like her owner, which, of course, is moi~

I looked at my outfit, a simple long-sleeved top with denim pants and white shoes. I looked in a mirror and it still didn't make a difference.

I look hot as fuck.

I whistled for Tootsie to come to me and stay put as she's going around in circles again, an indication that she was getting nervous and restless, and got the keys to this house.

Although there is no useful stuff in this house anymore, I will still come back to this habitat of mine as it is my solace from the outside. An escape from the society, if you will, no matter how ironic that was.

I waved my hand once for Tootsie to come to my side as I peeked outside the window. When I saw no one around, I opened the door and motioned for her to go outside first. With no hesitation, she did.

And God, I wish I had her courage right now, can't believe I'm jealous of a dog.

I locked the door behind me, immediately on high alert because of my surroundings. In the first eight months of the outbreak, I never did go outside. This would be my first time venturing out after it hit.

I whistled a specific tune for Tootsie to scout the surroundings, but not before putting the dog powder I got for her. The zombies rely on their other senses, mostly on their sense of smell, to find prey. This powder, no matter how floral it smells like, neutralizes Tootsie's scent, making her almost invisible to any zombie nearby.

She took off as soon as I finished putting it on her. It's currently 7 AM, so it'd probably take her some time to patrol the whole subdivision and come back to me.

Not long after I let her go, I heard her bark furiously from a street away.

I know I'm stupid, but I ran. I ran to her as if my life depended on it, heck, it probably did! And what I saw made me want to cuss out loud.

Because behind a barking Tootsie, there was a horde of zombies following her.

Is it too late to go back in the house now?

A/N:

So~ How'd you guys think about the first chapter? I've been wanting to write a zombie apocalypse story; I just don't know how to. 😭😆

If you guys need a visual representation of Tootsie and the zombie:

*Cue POTC theme song*

Cheers!
