•S1 E3: Snakebit (I)•

Start from the beginning

The last thing to do was finally remove all of the remaining dust and sand. In what would have taken a normal person hours, the ninja whisked the dirt away from the Bounty in only a few moments. And that was that.

Wu, returning with Nya, walked into the ninjas' room—to find them casually playing a video game together. The Destiny's Bounty was in impeccable shape, without a speck of dust or a light unlighted. 'What took you so long?' Kai asked cheekily.

Nya had to do a few rotations before she started believing it. 'This place looks amazing,' she marvelled. 'You guys really did all this?'

Cole took a moment from the game to hold up a finger, grinning, 'Ninja don't just fight, Nya. We clean.'

Wu almost chuckled, stroking his beard. 'You have exceeded my expectations.' He smiled as a car horn sounded outside. 'But can you keep it up?'

Jay stiffened at the sound, then sunk into his seat with a groan. Nya peeked out of the ship window to see an... odd car. It plowed through the rough desert sands like it was nothing, and it was coming towards the ship. Whoever was driving it refused to lay off the horn.

'We've got visitors,' she giggled, looking at Jay's distraught expression. 'And loud ones at that.'

He dragged a hand down his face, pressing his fingers together nervously. 'It's my parents,' he sighed. 'I'd know that horn anywhere. Listen, if they start yapping, just—don't let them get going, OK? They don't know when to quit. And if you start talking then they'll start talking, and suddenly you're all caught up in a conversation and the half the day is gone before you know it and—'

'We get it!' Kai cut in, 'They talk. A lot. Cherry doesn't fall far from its blossom.'

Jay shot him a look, but he was smirking too smugly to care.

Jay's parents ran into the garage sale pile, and everyone took that as the cue to go and greet them. As they got closer, they heard the tail-end of their conversation.

'...look at all this great stuff! They can't just get rid of it!' The man nodded, as though making a very important decision. 'We should have brought the trailer, Edna.'

Edna sighed, 'This ain't a flea market Ed. We're here for Jay, remember? The sale can wait for a while.'

'What's that? Did you take a note?'

    'I'm writing it down, Ed.'

'Mom! Dad!' Jay waltzed from the Bounty in a way that said "I'm-happy-but-not-actually-happy-to-see-you" with a plastic grin. Through gritted teeth he said, 'What are you doing all the way out here?'

Edna squinted, then her face melted into a warm smile. 'Oh, look, Ed! It's out baby boy! It's been so long since we've heard from you.'

'Ma, I called you two days ago.'

'Ah, well,' Ed chuckled, finally setting down some parts he was looking at. 'It's never soon enough, son. When're you coming out to the junkyard? You say you're coming, and... and you don't.'

Jay flushed. 'Dad,' he hissed, scratching the back of his hand, 'do we have to talk about the junkyard in front of my friends?' He couldn't help taking a quick peek back to see if anyone was laughing or giving him weird looks yet.

The only one laughing was Edna, snappy but genuine. 'He hate it when we tell people he was born in a junkyard.' He saw Nya and gasped, cooing, 'Oh, and who are you? You are so cute! Oh, you are just my son's type.'
