Paul McAvoy was born in Hillsboro,Ohio and is the son of Bill and Cindy McAvoy. McAvoy came to Colgate in August of 2017 and became one of the best players on the Raider men's hockey team. Paul played in 37 of Colgate's forty games as a freshman where he contributed six goals, three assists for a total of nine points as a freshman. Paul took a bit of a step back in his sophomore season where he tallied only two points as an aforementioned sophomore. McAvoy had a tremendous junior season prior to the pandemic where he recorded 17 points for the maroon and white featuring nine goals. Another step back came from McAvoy given the fact that it was a COVID shortened season but Paul recorded five points with three goals. Thanks to that COVID shutdown, McAvoy was granted an extra season and he made the most of his extra time in Hamilton. Eight points and leading Colgate to Lake Placid for the first time in seven years! Receiving a Masters of Arts in English, McAvoy left Colgate in May of 2022. Paul McAvoy wore number five for the Colgate Raiders for five years!
