"Mer? What do you want for breakfast?" Derek walked into the living room while Meredith was busy with her treatment

Meredith was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis at one year old. Ellis had always made sure she got the best medical care possible even if she never helped her daughter herself. Lots of medically trained au pairs and nurses had watched after Meredith during her childhood

She had always had a weaker immune system but she was pretty lucky. Each year she spend at least a few weeks or months at the hospital either because the little girl was too sick or to undergo a new treatment but after all she had a nice childhood. Carolyn Shepherd was one of the nurses while her husband worked on the PEDS ward. Meredith and Derek had always liked each other and it wasn't really a surprise when they started dating and even got married

"Some fruit and toast, please." Meredith coughed as she was wearing her vibrating vest. The vibration made sure the mucus would get loose inside her lungs so she'd be able to breathe easier. She coughed them up in tissues as she did every morning

"I'll get it ready." He smiled and quickly kissed her forehead

"And? What does mommy want?" Charlotte, their ten year old daughter asked

"Fruit and toast." Derek smiled as he walked in and opened the fridge. "Do you want some fruit as well? Maybe with some yoghurt?" Derek suggests

"Uhu!" She nods and sits down on her chair. "Daddy, I wanna go to the trampoline park!"

"Oh again?" Derek chuckled. He always tried to go on days Meredith was busy as he knew over the years those things had gotten a little too intense for her so she'd be left with terrible coughing fits

"Yes daddy! It's so much fun!" Charlotte smiles

"We'll see, monkey." He nods and got the food ready and then heard Meredith coming closer as she was still coughing

"Mommy! Breakfast's ready!" Charlotte announced

"Fruit and toast" Derek winked and placed the food on the table with her meds. She always had to take tons of meds, one of them every time she'd eat something so her body would actually respond to it

"Thanks." Meredith smiled and took a seat, swallowing her meds with some orange juice and then taking a bite of the toast

"Daddy, such good fruit!" Charlotte giggled

"Glad you like fruit so much." Meredith chuckled. "You're just like your dad"

"Hey, my healthy food is good for all of us." He winked

...

Later that day Derek and Meredith were on their way to the hospital. They had dropped off Charlotte at school and were now on their way to work. Meredith mainly did research, sometimes working on general cases but avoiding the ER and other germy places, which isn't always that easy in a hospital

"I'm so tired." Meredith groaned in her seat, wearing a sweater as she was cold

"Will you work the full day?" Derek asked her

"No, just four hours and then Alex will drive me home." She replied

"Text me before you go so I can maybe stop by quickly. I'll go get Charlotte at 4, she has gymnastics today" Derek said

"Great, then I'll make some dinner"

The two of them arrived at the hospital and head inside, their hands linked as they waited for the elevator

"Grey, Shepherd!" Bailey smiled as she got out. "Have to go!"

Meredith and Derek chuckled as they took the elevator

"Going to my office now, I'll be in the lab later." Meredith kissed his lips

"I have a surgery first, I'll see if I can stop by before the next one. I love you." He kissed her again

"I love you too" Meredith giggled

"Are you guys 16 or what?" Alex laughed as he passed them

"Jealous Karev?" Derek laughed and kissed Meredith once more before he took off to his office

"Don't forget I caught you and Jo last week in your office." Meredith catched up with him

"I won't forget about that." He chuckled. "How are you? You look tired." Alex notices

"Thank." Meredith rolled her eyes. "Just tired, had to do treatment a while longer this morning." She explained

"Are you coming down with something?" Alex frowned and stopped walking as they reached Meredith's office

"No. Just fall is always the same." Meredith sighed

"Okay. Stay away from the ER, okay? Just to be sure." He nods

"I always stay away from the ER, except with emergencies, you know that." Meredith reasoned

"I know Mer" Alex winked

...

Meredith was washing her hands, she had done for today and could go home. She looked for Alex as she walked out of her office, her bag in her hands but she decided to see Derek first. She made her way over to the surgical wing and ran into him

"Hi, are you done for the day?" He asked her, his arm around her waist

"I am. I just wanted to see you really quick." She kissed his lips. "Did you see Alex?"

"I'm here!" Alex walked towards them. "Shep, I promise I'll drop her off without any accidents" Alex laughed

"See you at home, Mer." Derek kissed her lips once more and then watched her walk off with Alex

"Did you perform any surgeries today?" Meredith asked as they walked out of the hospital towards his car

"One with your husband. A kid that had a brain tumor but was neglected by her parents" He sighed

"Sucks.. I hate it when parents do that.."

"I know. Let's go home." Alex said as they reached the car

New story!! 

I honestly hadn't expect to start a new one, especially not yet. But the amazing @GreysMeredithSwift convinced me to do this one. In the end I like to write to cope with stuff, which came at the right time. Let me know your thoughts, let me know what you guys wanna see.

I'm also slowly wrapping up my other stories because I was stuck and completely lost all motivation to write except for my two collars with @GreysMeredithSwift and hopefully this one will stay in my mind so I can finish them in the future :)

Sorry for those that are reading this whole thing but I'm starting university again tomorrow and because of several reasons I've been struggling quite a lot with some shitty things as a result but I really hope the routine will bring me back to writing more
