conrad telling stella to just "forget" about the kiss they shared on the fourth of july ruined everyone's moods. it wasn't conrad's intention, he was actually trying to make things better.

kissing stella felt like a betrayal to the two families. he felt like letting go and being with stella (which was what he really wanted), was a betrayal.

what if they didn't work out? family gatherings would be awkward, there would most possibly be awkward tension between the families, and cousins wouldn't feel like cousins.

conrad was simply thinking about the future ahead of time, unlike stella. conrad was always like that. the kiss wasn't going to change him. he couldn't help but bring worry into everything.

so he was going to let the kiss slide and pretend it never happened.

his feelings for stella usually simmered if he tried hard enough to neglect his feelings. he didn't know why his feelings that were hidden arose this summer, but he was sure he could repress them and they would disappear.

"you know what? maybe we do need some more stuff for tonight's dinner." susannah announced.

"stella, can you go run some errands for me?" she pleaded.

"sure," the girl nodded, as she wasn't really doing anything.

conrad couldn't help but think the two fo them could've been doing something right now.

"connie, do you wanna go with her? i mean, you two haven't even been doing anything all day. get out of the house." his mom smiled and as did laurel.

"no!" stella quickly interfered, startling the moms.

"i mean, conrad probably has something to do, right? conrad?" stella motioned to him.

"y-yeah." he shook his head, telling laurel and susannah who had their eyebrows raised in confusion.

"hon, it's summer. what would you be busy with? just go." susannah laughed.

"i know the two of you have it out for each other but c'mon. it's just groceries. stella, be more mature." laurel added.

"ugh, fine." stella groaned, taking the keys and slamming the front door closed.

"the two of you seem to be more... more out for each other." susannah questioned.

"i dunno." conrad shrugged, walking out and following stella's trail.

he sat in the passenger's seat in silence.

conrad stared out the window. then at stella. then he looked ahead.

he noticed stella was looking everywhere but at him and missed how whenever they bickered, she would look at him in the eyes.
