Hi Friends,

I wanted to take this time to address something in this book. The main character, Ellie, develops what many domestic violence survivors do, which is called a trauma bond. A few of you have figured it out already, as I see in the comments.
This is when the abused person forms an unhealthy attachment to their abuser. This abuser may hurt them in many ways, but the attachment remains. As a reader, it may seem like common sense not to want to be anywhere near your abuser, but others have a hard time with this because they may still love that person.
Ellie wants to be chosen, and Kyle gives her that for a moment until it turns deadly.

My heart goes out to those who suffer in silence. Just know you're not alone. If you or anyone you know are suffering from domestic violence:
Create distance, build a healthy support system with those you trust, and permit yourself to heal.
Also, call 800-799-7233 or text START to 88788 for domestic violence support.

Much love💜
