CHAPTER 27 / DANTE JUST BEING DANTE

Start from the beginning

"Yeah! Save me a spot!" She replied. "Sorry, I'd better go before my friends begin their game of volleyball without me," She said, twirling a strand of hair around her finger.

"Y'know, I'm a pretty mean player myself," Dante pointed out, as the girl rolled her eyes. The boy prayed that his overconfident alter-ego hadn't made him lose his cool.

"Yeah... no thanks, but I'm sure you are, See ya!" Gwen concluded before turning on her heel and running back to her friends.

"I'm a pretty mean player myself," Dante mimicked at his immature choice of words. "Stupid, stupid, stupid," He repeated, shaking his head down to the ground.

Another potential girl happened to catch his attention who was hanging out by the lifeguard station. The girl wore a kawaii-looking swimsuit and looked pure Japanese. She reminded him of Kawaii~Chan. Not that he could be with his ex anymore, that girl was gone and with someone else.

He ran up, trying to act cool but the girl spotted his eye contact, and immediately looked away. (been there done that) Dante proceeded to the girl and tapped her on the shoulder. The Casanova ran a hand through his hair, moving right on to the typical pickup line.

"There must be something wrong with my eyes, I can't take them off you," He said, making the girl turn to blush. Another girl, came up to Dante's target and whispered something into her ear. The first girl's smile instantly disappeared, and she walked off.

"Thanks, but no. I'm not the kind of girl who'd fall for guys like you," She answered, whipping her hair around and leaving with her friend.

"Well... that didn't go well," Dante whispered, before flirting with six other girls he'd managed to find. One of which, said she'd rather die in a hole.

What was so unlikable about him?

As he was about to give up, his attention was diverted to a girl who happened to be watching the coastal waves from the stairwell, that led to the beach.

Dante went around and pretended to head down the stairs, just to 'only' notice her as he quickly descended, luckily she managed to spy him coming down and made the first move.

"Hey," She said, as Dante stopped and turned to look at the girl.

"Hey," He replied.

"What're you doing?" She asked flirtatiously, which took him by surprise, as she brushed back a strand of her raven hair.

"I- I was going to wait for my friends so we can go surfing this afternoon. I decided to come out early so I could enjoy the beach," He improvised, running a hand through his curls.

With a smile the new girl stood up and gently played with his curls.

"Where's your surfboard then?"

"My, uh, friend is bringing down my one when he comes... soon..." Dante answered, biting his lip. Heck was he uncomfortable.

"Is your hair naturally this blue?" She whispered, flushing Dante's cheek a sharp scarlet. She was close. Too close. He could practically feel her breathing down his neck.

"Y-yeah," He mumbled.

"They're adorable," She said, coiling one around her finger. Dante managed to glance down at the girl and felt almost hypnotised by her chocolate brown eyes, perfect over-done make-up and revealing black bikini.

"I'm sure your friends wouldn't mind if I stole you for a minute, would they?" She questioned, as she looked around before, playfully pulling Dante by the collar and down to the stilted look-out building for the lifeguards.

She quickly tapped her finger on Dante's clenched jaw, before breaking her lips onto his. She tightened her grip on his shirt and pulled deeper into the kiss. Dante reluctantly kissed back and pushed the girl off him.

"No, I'm sorry, but no," He said before picking up the pace and headed back to the concreted footpath, leaving the girl back in the dust.

Dante didn't want to share anything with that girl who had different plans for him than he did for her.

She'd completely caught him off guard.

She looked so harmless, but that obviously wasn't the case.

Dante immediately wiped off the unwanted saliva from his lips and tongue and wiped it on his top. He didn't care he was public doing that, he hated that he was played with.

That's it... I'm going with Cadenza.

Just as he'd made up his mind, he ran into a girl with rugged pigtails, who wore a red floral jumpsuit and red sneakers.

"S-sorry!" Dante apologised, scaring himself enough to almost piss his trunks.

"I think I should be the one to be apologising. Don't beat yourself up over it," She replied, wiping the dirt from her knees she'd banged up.

Dante held out his hand to pull her up, which she accepted. The boy managed to grip a glance at the girl with light red hair, straight fringe over her forehead and grey eyes, framed with thick black eyelashes.

Even after years, he could still recognise her perfectly.

"Dante! Wh-What're you doing here!?" She exclaimed.

"N-Nicole! I-- It's great to see you! You're literally the last person I'd think of being here, I- just- what?! This is awesome!" He perked up, accepted a strong hug from the girl, which he complimented with a spin.

"What got you so panicky jus then? I haven't seen you like that in a long time. Cat got your tongue?"

Dante shook his head, "That is not something I'd be comfortable with sharing at the moment..." Nicole grinned and linked her arm in his.

"So, how'd you get here?" The redhead asked, "Let's just hope not another one of those kissing contests. That had Teony traumatised for weeks!"

"Zane actually got us the tickets, because this happens to be Kawaii~Chan's favourite destination, or something. Garte then pitched in and got the entire street tickets. What about you?" Dante explained, walking down the footpath with her.

"Well, I had some money saved from the judo and booked a ticket for the summer, just down that way," She said, pointing down to the opposite side of the resort.

"No way! That's awesome! But now that I think about it, I didn't see you at Aaron and Aphmau's wedding a month ago, were you there?"

"I was, but didn't stay for too long. Say, how is everyone?"

Dante laughed, "How about we get a milkshake, then you ask them yourself."

"Is that your way of asking me out?"

"I should hope so."

"Very well then, I'd like that very much."

"It's a date," Dante said, with a comforted grin and gripped her hand giving it a squeeze.
