Chapter 15: The Owl Crystal

After fighting the corrupted spirits, Poppyfrost launched herself at me claws unseathed knocking me to the ground. "Poppyfrost...why are...you doing...this to me?" I asked Poppyfrost as I was gasping for air. "You got everything, mom and dad's attention and I got none of it. You were gifted and I wasn't. If it wasn't for you snitching on me, I would still have my job as a herbalist." Poppyfrost hissed in my face as dad tackled her off of me. "Your mother and I love you and Midnightfur equally, you choose to be a power pawn for Darkpath..." Dad said. "Shut up Dad, if you even are my dad." Poppyfrost hissed at dad scratching his nose in the process. "Dad, are you okay?" I asked as I told Bramblestone to get some webbing to patch up my father's nose. Bramblestone found some webs in the dark forests trees. We patched up his nose so it wouldn't get infected. Darkpath and Cloudclaw walked out of the shadows with the corrupted spirits and the ancestors lit up the surrounding area. "Poppyfrost you have a choice to go to the corrupted spirits or to follow our ancestors, so what will it be corrupted spirits or your ancestors?" Dad asked Poppyfrost. "Dad, you know that I will always be a follower of my ancestors." I said to my dad. "I know you will, Midnightbreeze." Dad said to me. Poppyfrost stepped back towards the corrupted spirits. "I choose the corrupted spirits because they see me as a equal, but if I continue to follow the ancestors. I will never be happy." Poppyfrost hissed. "Come Poppyfrost your corrupted spirit training awaits." Darkpath said as Poppyfrost glared at me and walked off with Darkpath and the corrupted spirits. "My sister is making a big mistake." I said to Batripple. "Midnightfur your right about that." Batripple said as Ravenwind walked over to us. "Midnightbreeze, your shoulder, it's bleeding." Ravenwind said shocked. "Yeah, Ravenwind is right, your shoulder is bleeding." Fernlight said. "Make sure you get your shoulder looked at by our herbalist Cherrytail." Darkmist said in a worried tone of voice. "Thanks Darkmist, I will get it looked at, let's get out of the dark forest." I said as dad and I lead the group out of the dark forest. Poppyfrost made her choice to follow that monster Darkpath. I thought to myself as Bramblestone walked over to me. "Midnightbreeze, there is a crystal in our territory and it's called the owl crystal." Bramblestone said. "Is it far from the base?" I asked. "No, not that far it's a few fox lengths away from the base." Bramblestone answered my question. "Could I first get my wound looked at by Cherrytail?" I asked. Maybe my sister was right, I'm just a mouse brain and fox hearted. "Midnightbreeze." Bramblestone said. "Yeah Bramblestone?" I asked. "You good?" Bramblestone asked. "Yeah Bramblestone, I am." I said. "Good, now let's get that shoulder looked at. We don't want it getting infected." Bramblestone said as we walked into the healers den. "What happened Midnightbreeze?" Cherrytail asked. "When, I was trying to talk some sense into my sister. She scratched me on the shoulder. And she also scratched my dad on the nose." I explained to Cherrytail. "Thanks Bramblestone for bringing her to me when her sister Poppyfrost did that to her. By the way where is Poppyfrost anyway, just curious?" Cherrytail asked. "She's with the corrupted spirits in the dark forest." I said in pain. "Well she made her choice to stay with them." Bramblestone said as Cherrytail got some Yarrow and cobweb. Cherrytail chewed the Yarrow up into a pump and placed it on my wound then she put the Cobwebs on the wound to bandage it. Cherrytail got some poppy seeds for me to help with the pain. "Get some rest, then we will head out for the owl crystal." Bramblestone said as I fell asleep for a while. Batripple walked into the healers den. "Cherrytail, how is she?" Batripple asked. "She's doing well, she's just sleeping the pain off of her wound. Your welcome to stay with her until she wakes up." Cherrytail said as Batripple laid down next to me. She placed her tail on my back, I put my head on her paws. Its been days since I saw my sister Poppyfrost when she made her choice to follow that monster Darkpath and the corrupted spirits. On of the cats there fighting along side Darkpath was a dark brown tabby tom by the name of Tigerpelt a river colony ranger and father to River colony's captain Moonriver but her mother was on my side and her name is Goldenlake. A oak colony ranger named Timberfur joined the corrupted spirits without Stormwhisker knowing. Poppycry and Thistlepoppy joined the corrupted spirit training with Poppyfrost and Timberfur. My fur bristled as I saw a vision on my sister Poppyfrost surrounded by Darkpath and Cloudclaw. Chervilberry and Duskwind walked into the healers den. "How is she mom?" Chervilberry asked. Batripple sighed. "Still haven't woken up yet, she did get pretty banged up in the battle with her sister Poppyfrost." Batripple said as she licked my fur comforting. "Hope she wakes up soon." Duskwind said. "I'm worried about your mother." Batripple said. "Yeah, I'm worried about mom too." Chervilberry said. My tail twitched as like it was laying in a pile of snow. Batripple stood up to her paws and walked out of the healers den to tell my father that I was still sleeping. Moonriver and her rangers had stopped following there ancestors to follow that monster Darkpath. Stormtail and his rangers had followed suit with Moonriver to follow that monster Darkpath. Three days later and I opened my eyes to see myself in the healers den. Cherrytail turned to face me. "Midnightbreeze, your awake." Cherrytail said. "How long have I been asleep?" I asked. "Three days, miss. Those poppy seeds really knocked you out, huh?" Cherrytail asked. "Yeah they did." I said. "How is the pain from your wound?" Cherrytail asked. "Its getting better but if I put pressure on it, it might hurt." I said. "Will you try for me?" Cherrytail asked. "Yeah, I'll try." I said as I stood on shaking paws. "Step with the leg that has the scar on it." Cherrytail said. "Okay Cherrytail." I said as I took a step on my hurt leg. Dad walked into the healers den to see that I was awake and moving around. "Midnightbreeze your awake, after three days. Let's go tell the colony that you're awake. If that's okay Cherrytail?" Dad asked. "Yeah that's okay, Midnightfur take it easy on your leg for the next few days." Cherrytail said. "Okay Cherrytail." I said. "Attention colony. I have great news for all of you." Dad announced as the colony gathered beneath the tall rock. Batripple smiled as she saw me standing next to my father on the tall rock. "Lets come together in celebration the safe return of your second in command Midnightbreeze. Without Cherrytail's care Midnightbreeze's wound would have gotten infected. Without her Midnightfur would be gone. Thank you Cherrytail." Dad announced. "Your welcome Whiteclaw and you Midnightbreeze." Cherrytail said. Later after the ceremony. I walked over to Bramblestone. "Should we go look for the owl crystal?" I asked Bramblestone. "Oh of course follow me because I know where it is." Bramblestone said as we walked out of the base. We walked and walked towards the owl crystal. "Here we are, Midnightbreeze. I knew it would still be here." Bramblestone said. I looked at the giant crystal in front of us. "What does it do?" I asked Bramblestone. "It shines blue when it sees the good in cats and red when it sees the bad in cats." Bramblestone explained as I harvested a small chunk of the owl crystal. I put the piece of crystal in my side pouch. "Let's go back to the base." Bramblestone said as we walked through our territory towards the base. The sun was setting behind the mountains. "Tomorrow we can start our research on the owl crystal." Bramblestone said as we walked into the rangers den. I felt my eyes getting heavy and I fell asleep. Batripple curled up next to me and put her tail around me and she fell asleep next to me.
