[Rewrite In Progress] Chapter 17 - An Unexpected Encounter

"Stop squirming you little brat!" *Thud*

The thrashing stopped and whimpering could be heard from the victim. I still couldn't see what was happening so I quickly made my way towards the scene without making any noise. As I approached, I saw muscular looking men tying up a girl who looked to about my age. She had bright green, moss coloured hair with bright golden gradient eyes, which were behind a pair of big, round glasses. She would have looked cute, had it not been for her pained expression and the tears flowing down her face.

"Nice little catch, right Raylee? I heard this girl's parents talking about enrolling her to Xyrus academy if she awakens. Do you what this means. They're loaded! We can ask for a ransom and then sell her off as a slave and make even more money, hahahaha."

Disgust and rage seeped out of body as I heard what these two were planning to do with the girl. I had forgotten how rotten the world truly is. It runs on human greed. It prospers on negative emotions. I had very well seen it with my own eyes at the Auction House. From the selfishness of the King. I had been so angry that time, that I forgot to think about it then. That's how it's been. That's how it'll will always be. It's in our nature. To use others for our own benefit. No matter if it's this world or the next, human greed will always be the deciding factor for someone's action. Will it benefit you or not? It's always subconsciously being answered at the back of your brain.

But some people do things that are not for their benefit or gain. They have no ulterior motives in mind and only act for the benefit of others. They are truly a rare find. One of a kind. Like my parents and the Leywins. I guess I was lucky to have grown up with such kind people around me.

But these people in front of me are the exact opposite. The worst of the worst. The absolute dogs of society. They prosper on the misery and suffering of others. I was once a ruler, who swore to protect my people and guide them. I was seen as one of the best of the best; someone people look up to and strive to become. After all, it's your leader that people look to first when wanting an impression of the nation.

That same pre-instinctual urge to protect people ignited within me and I decided, right then and there, to teach these blubbering apes their place and make sure they could never do this again to anyone else.

I approached them; making my footsteps loud enough for them to her and get their guard up. As I got closer to them, I noticed both of them wearing cloaks to cover their face. Smart. If they're going to kidnap someone in broad daylight, then I would be a good idea to hide their faces. Because then, even if they do get caught, then can make a break for it and hid in the crowd with their cloaks off. That way no one would know it was them. But that logic had one fatal flaw. If they couldn't get away in time and get caught, then their attacker can find out their identities easily.

I looked at them with a confused and innocent smile; acting like a lost little girl. "What's going on here?" I moved closer to them, making it look like curiosity was getting the better off me. Although I couldn't see it, I could feel their face moving into a wide grin. They obviously thought that another helpless girl they can sell just presented themselves to them.

The girl, who's mouth had a cloth wrapped around it, looked at me in horror; thinking that I was also about to get captured. She tried to speak, probably to warn me, but nothing eligible came out. The man named Raylee glared at her to shut up, then looked at me with a smug grin.

"Nothing much little girl. We were just playing. Would you like to join us, it's really fun." As those words left life mouth, an inhumane stench fell on the whole alleyway. I think I know why the girl was crying now. It was probably more out of fear that she will suffocate from not being able to breath because of that man's foul breath.
