Opinion: Final Evaluations are not as reliable as you think...here's why
About a week ago, I featured eight young men who protested near the Senate building, challenging the president's mental health order made in the spring. I felt honored to share their story, even though, to them, it didn't seem like a big deal. They were standing up for something they felt wasn't right.
I, myself, fell into this niche of journalism through similar circumstances. My guilty conscience caught up with me, and I couldn't ruin young people's lives anymore. I quit my very prestigious and comfortable job as a Final Evaluator with the support of my husband. Talking to these protesters that day, some of whom I very directly and deliberately destroyed, made me reflect on what I could do to help their cause and amplify their voices and concerns.
So I decided, to them, and whomever will read this, to explain the strict nature of the Final Evaluation. Or, as Kim Seungmin said when I showed them the reality I had taken for granted, '[this] leaves no room for nuance'.
I will explain later in this article how narrow the scope is that determines the fate of your sons and daughters, but I will let what these young men show examples of their lived experience.
