I felt ecstatic.
Everything around me moved in such grace and random notes filled my head. I love the feeling of being so free.
Music pranced around the trees; the smooth sound of my wooden flute taken away by the wind. A happy melody. My heart beat grew faster and faster, and so did that joyous sound.
It felt everywhere all at once.
The forest around me filled with a bright green of life, and I felt the sweet serene of grass graze my bare feet. I lightly giggled and continued on, now with the company of birds in the trees and sunlight on half my face.
I felt alive. Although my body felt so cold, it was warm like a hug wrapped around my insides.
I couldn't pinpoint where the goosebumps formed, but it was amazingly comforting.
My small smile only grew wider as I was wafting through the branches of almost endless trees, blowing through my woodland instrument, creating a jumble of notes that end up in such a beautiful song...
But suddenly, from miles away, a booming sound rattles the ground, making the trees shiver and leaves fall.
Intimidated, I stopped my song, gripping my flute. My heart dropped from the silence; including the memory of the melody I was playing only seconds ago. I'm faintly familiar with that booming sound but what was it again?
Curiosity stung me.
Don't look for it.
...But what if a being was in danger?
My body lifts over the trees to attempt to spot the origin of all this and a "whooshing" sound comes from above me; I flinch.
I look up to only see the sky, but the sound flew farther to the right.
Is something playing with me?
A domino effect of tree branches being cracked and pulled, and the leaves being thrashed, sounds loud from the far right. I depicted the center of the noise after I got startled by a ginormous "SPLASH!". There had to be a body of water around here somewhere to create such a booming noise.
I looked over and found only brushes of tall, thick trees between the thick leaves. I flew down to the ground for the leaves had only grown thicker the further I went.
I swiftly walked around, looking for a sign of water, anything.
Guttural coughs from nearby made me flinch and I turned only to see a thick tree.
I walked to the side of it for a second to look before another harsh outburst frightened a flock of birds in the tree behind me, and my body jolted into the branches.
Clinging to a thick branch like a spiky-tailed kitten, it took me a second to calm, and I sighed, why am I so scared? I'm not alive, nothing can hurt me, I scolded myself.
I felt sheepish as I flew through the branches to the other side and pushed through the leaves. The Sun rays hit me and my vision went full white.
Recovering, I awed at the scenery of the sunlight hitting the surrounding trees and how it fell upon the body of water below creating an array of light beams that are colored in the most beautiful of shades I've ever seen.
Colors shown explosively. With the sun, the almost dull colors I've seen everywhere shown as vibrant as can be. The greens, the rocks, the trees; even the brown bodies of the trees shined so bright.
I still have so much to explore in this forest! I awed.
I almost felt serene until I saw the body floating on the water. My heart sunk down to the ground below me.
With a shiver, I flew down above them; far enough to not feel endangered but close enough to observe them closely.
It was a man- no, a boy.
He had broad shoulders and a built form. Half his face was exposed for his helmet was broken from the far right. Strands of sweat-straight hair was uncovered. Bruises grew plum purple on his cheek where the helmet used to be.
His armor was just as broken as his helmet, and it was blackened heavily with ash.
His legs were unnaturaly turned in different ways and his right arm was gone, spilling out a deep red fluid into the water.
The red fluid seemed to not only be coming from his arm: he must have been covered with bruises and large cuts everywhere from the way his undercoat of armor was emitting a dark red shine as well. One thing stood out clearly: he was at the edge of death.
A cold sweat ran on my back.
My mind was fighting against me, I didn't feel anything for them for I didn't know them, but I felt a tinge of something in my chest. I didn't know what it was.
I didn't want to accept what the feelings conjured in my thoughts.
He let out another rough cough, but not as loud as the last few.
At this rate he was dying fast. I had to get help quick.
I straightened myself upright, bringing my knees slightly up and guided my instrument to my lips; a song I was taught to call for help guided through my flute and I caught the light of a familiar royal-green hue in seconds.
It felt so fast it gave me reason to think this boy was not far from saving.
But, even so, the green hue gave me little hope.

First chapter!!! Sorry not sorry for the cliffhanger at the start, but even so I hope you all liked it ^^
It is a bit of a slow burn but there is going to be more upcoming juicy scenes and adventure scenes. There is also romance in this book, just to put out there. ;)
This book was an idea made from the song Soldier, Poet, King by The Oh Hellos. It is an amazing song and I recommend listening to it if you are interested!
Anyways, have a good day :) ~ VERA
